I will be starting AFROTC this fall, and I need a list of all the things I can do, that would help me attain a UPT slot. I already know things like the right attitude, high gpa, etc. But I need specific things like joining organizations like the Arnold Air Society, if someone can give me some insight on that, as well as everything else. Appreciate it

You need to place your sight on getting SFT first, the current rate for that right now is hovering around 50%. No SFT and no commissioning let alone UPT.

You need to be involved and hold positions within the det. You need to do well on your PFT. every semester. Once you attend SFT the rank you graduate out of Maxwell will be a part of the equation. DG, top 1%, top 5%, top 10%, etc will be awarded specific points towards your OML.

Later on you will take the TBAS besides the AFOQT, only cadets wanting a rated AFSC will take the TBAS, all cadets take the AFOQT. Both of these scores will also be part of your OML. OML will determine if you make the cut.

AAS, Angel or HG are good organizations to get involved in for multiple reasons, but it is only good to be involved with them if it is a fit for you.

Do USAFA cadets also take the AFRQT and TBAS for UPT?

I know that they take the AFOQT, at least they did a few yrs back. The TBAS I am not sure about, but I would think so because even as an AFA cadet you would meet a board, and that is part of the score for the rated board. Granted all cadets at the AFA who wants a rated slot gets one so the scores for them the scores are basically moot. For AFROTC those scores are not moot at all.

The AFOQT I believe is now given as a C200 or 300, I am not sure. Yrs ago it was given fall 100. If it is given in fall 200, it is probably going to be also a part of the equation for the SFT board.

As I stated earlier right now your eye should be trying to get SFT and doing really well there. Your success at SFT is step one. UPT is further down that list.

The USAFA cadets do take the AFOQT, but they do not take the TBAS. The AFOQT scores are not really counted for anything other than research purposes to compare success rates for UPT compared to the AFOQT score. Son did say that the AFOQT scores for class of 2011 were looked at by the ranking people for UPT students who requested ENJJPT. (ie: You could have a top ranked cadet who got a UPT slot and requested ENJJPT, but had a score of 10 on the pilot section of the AFOQT)

I've heard about the Air force officer test, kind of similar to the SAT's, but can anyone enlighten me with more detailed information, and its testing date? And what is the TBAS?

Your det will discuss the AFOQT with the cadets regarding when it is given. In 08 it was given to C100's, but I believe now it is given to 200s.

TBAS (Test of Basic Aviation Skills) is only given to cadets that will meet a rated board. It is given in your C300 yr prior to the rated board. It is @ 90 minutes, and it is against regs to discuss what is on the test. If you have any flight hours you will get points awarded, you must bring your log with you.

Here is a tip. Change your login name. It is really hard to take you seriously as "Fartman 38". That may seem like a fun login for an email address when you are 12. It is definitely not going to be considered professional as a Cadet.

That seems a little harsh Marist. Granted nobody can tell intonation on a forum and maybe you were posting it a tongue and cheek manner, but it read harsh.

Do I agree with you? Yes, to a point, but honestly, I doubt he is going to walk around ROTC and say they call me "fartman".
