If a plebe is wearing a Neckerchief tied in a knot and hung around the neck with the knot resting at the upper chest level, what does that mean?

This may be correct, but I'm not completely sure:

White Works "A" (Alpha) - White works blouse/trousers over crewneck t-shirt with neckerchief, black socks, black leather shoes, and white combination cover

White Works "C" (Charlie) - White works blouse/trousers over crewneck t-shirt with black socks, black leather shoes, and blue rim dixie cover

White Works "E" (Echo) - White works blouse/trousers over USNA blue rim t-shirt and shorts with regulation white shoes

White Works "F" (Foxtrot) - White works blouse/trousers over crewneck t-shirt, black socks and black leather shoes

Could the Black Scarfs be Tango Company?

No. Tango Co. (the company to which plebes are assigned while they're awaiting out-processing) wear the uniform of the day -- the same uniform everyone else is wearing.

Don't think "Tango" is any different uniform or significant for those wearing regular uniform. Just means they may be wearing it wrong. Last I saw Plebes did not have neckerchief of any color outside Bankroft. I thought that was only for enlisted. Sorry Checked and WW "ALFA" requires black neckerchief and full cover but never seen it. Required for Plebe Summer Meal Formations "Fourth Class" .

The black kerchiefs are just part of the whiteworks alpha uniform. As plebe summer is past the halfway point, you will see the plebes wearing whiteworks alphas for church and for plebe parades when it is the uniform of the day. The uniform of the day may be different than the working uniform, which for the majority of plebe summer, is whiteworks echo.

Traditionally, plebes wear the summer whites for the first time during PPW. They will be very proud of earning this - and very paranoid about keeping squared away.

Part of the reason for the multiple WW options is based on when everything can get issued to everyone. As large as the laundry bags are that the Plebes haul around on I-day, that's nowhere near all of the items they need. To be able to have WW "A" as the uniform of the day, every Plebe needs to have their combo covers, dress shoes, etc.

The plebes also wear whites at the Baysox game (coming up this Friday, so all of mine are currently furiously ironing and burning their shoulderboards).

Earlier than I remember getting my summer whites, but that's what time does to your memories. Also I saw one company's summer whites inspection on USNA's FB page today. The Chief looked alternately intent, pleased, and not so much.

Our plebe year was the year of the baseball strike. So, instead of an outing tot the Orioles game, we got a bonfire or some such fool thing.:frown:

I remember when we all put on our summer whites for the first time during Parents Weekend. Suddenly we all looked like firsties (without the stripes) and were scaring each other.

A classmate would wander into your room and, initially, you'd flinch until you realized it was not a firstie. At that point in time we were conditioned to believe that only firsties wore that uniform.

Facebook inspection

My DS is in those pics looking very intense. His shoes are the ones that are the shiniest! Lol! And the inspector does look intense!!

Just in the interest of general knowledge to those encountering a black neckerchief for the first time, they are a carry over from the Royal Navy which adopted them upon the death of Lord Nelson, one of their greatest naval heroes. For some unstated (or, at my age perhaps forgotten reason) the U S Navy adopted the uniform item.

They clean up real good for PPW in those summer whites. Tourist attraction downtown. DD's friends all thought they were with a celebrity for the weekend.

I can't wait to see my DS in that uniform for PPW...it has been a LONG 6 weeks!!
