Plebe privileges

From what I am noticing, plebe privileges are pretty much based on what the CC allows the company to do. For example, DS is in Band Co. and wasn't allowed to do Power Squadron activities last weekend and most likely will not be allowed to this weekend either. They have also been told that they cannot go into NY on Sunday with the rest of the Christian Fellowship Group for services while Plebes in other companies may. I guess my main question is, is there any way their CC will not grant them leave on Saturday of Acceptance weekend? I'm asking because it seems like their company is being kept out of many of the activities that other companies are being allowed to do and I just can't imagine what it would be like if they were denied that leave. Thanks for any information.

Everyone usually gets leave on the orders of the Superintendent unless it's an upperclassman on restriction or someone who has duty.

And risk the wrath of all the parents that flew in from out of town LOL They will all be granted liberty that weekend and rest assured the liberty and priviledges all equal out in the end. Last year it was 4th Co that seemed to get limited priviledges in the beginning and then it switched and they were getting priviledges and others were being restricted. It all seems to even out over time. There are occurences that can happen wehn the entire company will be restricted for an extended period of time until things are worked out. It happened to my DD comapny last year, there was vandalism in the head and no lib until the parties responsible came forward. This occurred over a long regimental weekend and all had to remain on campus including 1C. ventually it was determined it was someone from another company and the restrictions were lifted but those things can happen so again remember lib is never guaranteed (other than I would say Parent Weekend/Acceptance weekend) :yllol:

leave on Parents weekend

don't worry, your DD or DS will get leave on Parents weekend. It's part of the routine to make them unsure whether they will get off.

Yep Yep and Yep.....Drama & Exaggeration should be a course for credit along with Probability and Stats !

What but I've been corrected and/or told repeatedly that a midshipman can do band AND other things ... that living in Band Company is just like living in any other company ... now I hear otherwise? How can this be? It just doesn't seem right I mean you would think that they don't have partially or no-functioning air conditioning in their dorm rooms they would get more not fewer privleges... of course the ridiculous thing about it all is that it is one First Class/Senior Band Geek doing it all to the freshman/PC band geeks because they are really tougher and better than the other companies.

Jasperdog casually lights a pack of matches and tosses it onto the puddle of gasoline he just spilled on this thread as he walks away....

A better way to stir things up is with the comment:

"Is Band Company really part of the Regiment?"

Talk amongst yourselves. . . . .

Jasper dog you are bad, bad, bad! :shake:

How did the golf outing go? I Wonder what the Maui golf package went for on the auction? Did you run in the 5k? And, did the kids fall all over themselves trying to get to the steak dinner I hear the alumni provided? Whoa! Thread hijack,,oops!

Late to the party.

If anyone in BandCo is getting curtailed right now, it's probably just due to getting ready for Parents Weekend... and the large performance that BandCo has. I'm not a Band Dad, and I don't play one on TV ;)
However, I was hooked every since the first Beat Retreat.
I was really impressed with what they pulled together, and enjoyed it immensely.
It is HOT in there (would have liked it even more if A/C was present... or rented). Heck, I wanted to go see 'em all 4 years.

Beat Retreat -- They're going to do great. Don't miss it. (drink lots of water, and wear something light), and bring your own mop bucket for your sweat.

...
That being said, I thought 'Plebe Privileged' would have immediately been followed by: "Plebes have privileges?!?! not unless they earn 'em !"
Comparing against different companies/CCs... a good way to get yourself frustrated, since the personalities are different, and the groups of kids are different.
...
However, I'm bringing marshmallows to roast around the flame that JasperDog started:) There's plenty for all... Lyn, have some. hahahah

.... Did you run in the 5k? ...

 Thanks I now have a visual of my DS and a couple of his first classman buddies who lurk to make sure I don't embarrass them too much and to enjoy my "candor" but who know how enamored i am with the thought of any sort of "excercise" rolling on the floor laughing at that thought - me in the 5k- that is...

KP has a band? I remember a bunch of midshipman carrying shiny things in formation and some guys wearing fake leopard skins while pretending to play the drums and if I really strain myself I recall something vaguely resembling music being played. Are you telling me that was the "band"?

I also recall teasing the band practically being an intramural sport 

:frown:
Being the m of a DS band "geek" (not a PC) I am trying to remain light and disconnected from the attempts at humor here but actually I am more concerned with all the band co kids trying to juggle all the stuff required of them this first tri when some would really rather be on the water, need to be studying or want to just have some fun instead of constantly practicing.

I love the band and am proud of it but I don't think kids should be told they have to be in it at indoc, it should be a choice. Problem is, there might not be a band then if it were pure choice. Kids this age often want to be done with band after years in hs, and try new things. But, from what I have heard, overall, band co has a higher GPA than other companies. I don't know if that is fact or fiction though. It makes sense to me if kids have to juggle band and a sport, etc. then they are better at time management in the end.

Anyway - just so everyone knows, not all kids in band co who play instruments at KP (or in the real world even) are "geeks", some actually are athletes, EMT's, love to sail, and do Marine Ops as well. They are often your all around well-balanced kids. But keeping it all going and still keeping grades up is the thing I worry about the most.

Too bad there isn't more respect for people who play instruments at KP, wonder where that comes from?-- I have theories, but I don't think we need another fire so I will try to keep quiet. Suffice it to say that in my experience mostly men have a need to tease people about band, not women. Funny that.

Oops, fire extinguisher anyone?

Fortunately, I imagine most band kids who came through KP did just fine in spite of all the unfounded perceptions about musicians and unwarranted teasing from other mids. Just my 2 cents worth - I am just a "geek m"

David Beckham aside, whose posters do girls have all over their walls? Musicians. I painted my room in David Cassidy! Think John Mayer without the open mouth ( spit out actresses foot) insert ( own) foot. No age jokes here! Show me a guitar player or sax guy and I am hooked! Plus band guys actually know how to speak and listen to words called lyrics.

Not a band mom here a former groupie wannabe. I hear John M. Does like older women,,,,,,,,,,,,,

At the risk of violating my oath of Omerta to Kappa Pi Sigma ...

No one should take alumni banter very seriously. We call KP "the zoo" for a reason, spending four or more years in that place gives you a bit of an odd edge shall we say. I always said it would take me several years to "normalize" to the rest of society and my wife will testify that 14 years later she is still waiting. Get several of us together and the stories start flowing and we fall right back in to form. Just remember, None of it is personal and bears only a minutely scant relation to reality.

Don't believe anything you hear and only half of what you see. 

Yes KP engineer,I remember those fake leopard skins and everyone at the zoo called the band " the moving noise" even the band members. Remember the theme from Tv show Peter Gun that the band played at the basketball games ?

OK, folks...tell me that the day your DS or DD set foot on the campus at Kings Point was the first time they ever heard jokes about being in band. Really? Chill out band parents and be proud of your band DS/DD. From what I can tell most band company mids do quite well and "enjoy" many and varied activities during their years at KP. As the parent of a grad and soccer player I can assure you that the midshipman band is a proud and respected part of Kings Point tradition. The mids might not admit it, but most/all understand and respect the time and talent that goes into being in the band. Even if they find it a non-intercollegiate sport to make jokes.
