Seriously, the SAT is my biggest enemy. I have a 680 Writing (which doesn't even matter), 630 Math, & 530 CR. I can't retake it until October 1. My application will be done by September, but I really don't want them to review my application with SAT scores like that, so I don't know whether to hold off on submitting my whole application or not.

What do I do? Once I retake the SAT & send in my new scores, will they review my application again and reevaluate me? or what?

Send in what you have and complete your application. Any updates such as new test scores will be considered. My DS sent SAT scores from his Junior year, took the ACT in October of his Senior year and didn't recieve his test scores until November - recieved an LOA in December.

send in your packet as soon as it is done. SAT scores are only part of the WP score. Although they may be an area you are working towards improving, having your application done early shows commitment. Everyone has strengths and weaknesses and by you submitting updated scores in Oct you will be showing you identified a weakness and are working towards improving it. My ds is in the same boat as you are!

I have an 800 CR, 690 Math, 680 Writing. My grades are good but not straight A's (all IB classes- it's impossible for straight A's). Good, or not so much?

I think you know the answer to that question.

No offense to you, but please start your own thread if you want other's input dealing with your stats.

Being a fellow IB student, I would say you are still competitive since making straight A's is definitely hard. Now an interview committee will not want to hear "it's impossible for straight A's." My grades slipped this past year into many B's but my BGO told me my ACT scores are still very competitive (35 and 33).

As for the original thread:
Have you tried taking the ACT? USNA only takes your English and Math scores versus the composite. Also the English ACT section is more similar to the SAT writing section. Back in 10th grade, I took the PSAT and only made 58 and 52 on Math and Critical Reading. Four months later I took the ACT and got 31 Math and 28 English. In my opinion, it is worth trying. Also the ACT is more straight forward in my opinion.

I take the ACT for my first time on September 10th. Don't know how I'll do though. Don't think it'll be too much of a difference from my SAT scores now, but I'm taking it just to see if it helps at all.

What are you doing to improve your scores? Are you studying? Really studying? Are you taking any review classes? Have you bought and worn out a review manual? How have you done on the dozen practice tests you've taken?

If the NA is a goal and those tests are what might keep you from reaching that goal, if you're not doing everything possible I can promise you you'll have regrets down the road. If, OTOH, you give it your best effort there'll be no second guessing.

Giving up a couple of hours a day for 1 month will not seem like much of a sacrifice when you toss you cover in the air in Memorial Stadium.

osdad's right. We all know the old adage ... doing the same thing and expecting different results... insanity. Or maybe just laziness. Get off the duff if different results are desirable. Otherwise, as Red noted in Shawshenk Redemption, "Quit wasting my time

btw, JJ's scores aren't bad. But there is a bit of a smokescreen there in the CR. None will ever know about that 800 and 680 and 690 are fine, not great. If I had a silver dollar for every student who's told us they go to the top 10 school taking 19 IB/AP courses this week? I'd be retired in Norfolk, living the highlife at the Enlisted Men's Club, sipping quarter cold ones. And it's clear there are thousands of "top 10" schools.

Yessir, I have SAT tutoring 3 hours every week with PLENTY of homework and practice tests on top of that, haha.
