From Admissions, via email....

Class of 2016 specific guidance:
*
For this admissions cycle, 2016, the Director has released her guidance. Specifics:
*
- Class size is expected to be around 1200. (not including Turnbacks, Medical leave of Absence Cadets from 2015, International Cadets and Ex-Cadets)
- Letters of Assurance (LOAs) will start going out around 1 September (much later than 2015 cycle) and will probably stop in early October. Candidates must have at least a verified high school rank, official transcripts and official standardized test scores in order to be evaluated for an LOA. They can have more than this.
- We expect a USMAPS class size of between 240-246 Cadet Candidates for next class.

What does ex-cadets mean, can you leave corps and come back? How likely is that to occur?

No real big deal here but, i read on the "West Point Admissions" FaceBook page that said (on Monday, 8Aug2011) that these (LOA) would go out "Sometime" in Aug.. Not sure who speaks from WP Admissions on FB but all this can be confusing.

We were at WP on Monday. Dropped off oldest son, who is a yearling on Sunday, and youngest son went to info session, and sat down with admissions on Monday. During our conversation we were told that September was the LOA timeframe.

On a side note it was great to be there for the marchback, and see all of the new cadets. Best of luck to the class of 2015.

That's the official word, sent via email, from admissions to the SW Field Force. Take it or leave it.

Ex-cadet means exactly what it means - you used to be a cadet. One example is Mormon cadets, they go on their two year mission, not sure if they have to reapply or not. But, I am assuming if you left in good standing, WP will accept you.

I believe if you are academically separated, you can reapply. Of course, you will have to somehow prove that you learned from your mistake (i.e. attend a regular college and get good grades)

How likely to occur - I personally know of two ex-cadets coming back.

I believe in theory female cadets who go preganant can return if they give up custody.

Yes, Mormon cadets who leave for mission do have to reapply, it's basically a formality. Also yes to female cadets who give birth being able to return (i.e. it's not a theory).

I personally know more than one who were in each category.
