Will these DQ me?

Ok... the only possible medical conditions I have that may need a waiver are... I have two fake teeth that are bridged and my dentist wants to put implants in when my mouth is done growing, and I have cold sores-herpes simplex type 1 (not the STD) which I may never even get again (only had 1 time ever). Will I be DQed, need a waiver, have to do remedials, be fine, etc.

I would think the teeth may be a waiver issue because you can't go to an SA wearing braces, so I would think bridges would be a waiver issue because they are not permanent. Implants may also be a waiver issue...contact the DoDMERB help line.

I would also go to the Dodmerb help line for the cold sores-herpes simplex 1 issue, because that may be more about the type of meds you have been prescribed by a doc in the past yr or so which could make that a DQ issue. Some meds are immediate disqualifiers, such as Accutane if taken within X amount of time from the physical.

KP probably MAY know too, but I don't want everyone pming him as the new MullenLE, when they can just go to the help line via the net instead with a true answer. We don't want him running away from overload...he is AD and a Mod here, answering questions about DoDMERB just because he is a flight doc may be coming close to abusing him

To be honest... you cannot even tell that I have bridged teeth, and they basically act as real teeth. For the Herpes simplex type 1, it is mild, and there is a high chance I never have an outbreak again. Actually just read on a DODMERB form that all that is servicable fake teeth are fine, so I just need to figure out if these bridges are considered "servicable." The nice thing is, I could keep these bridges until I am completely graduated from the academy and get implants years from now. So with that in mind, I would assume my false teeth are considered servicable.

Glad to hear.

The fact is you can do nothing about your teeth, but wait for the results. I would contact the DoDMERB help desk for guidance regarding how to approach this issue.

OBTW telling you have fake teeth is not the issue, it is the issue from a medical injury issue. The same reason braces are DQ, but will be waivered if they are off for BCT.

For the herpes issue the question maybe if you have been on prescribed meds to control outbreaks and if those meds are an issue.

Meds play into the equation when it comes to the physical.

No meds for the virus because there is a chance I never will have an outbreak ever again anyway. For the teeth issue, I figure that I might just have to get them waived. The worst thing that could happen is one would get knocked out and any dentist could attach the tooth back in which would take one trip and about ten minutes. I wrestle with them and have never had them come out so I figure it would take quite the hit to jar one loose. Even wrestling Greco at Fargo and taking some hard hits to the mouth didn't loosen them at all.

I have simplex-1 as well, and I am currently a third class cadet at the Air Force Academy so I would assume it is not a disqualifier. I had one outbreak during basic and one during this past winter, and I just went to the cadet clinic and told them what was going on and what drug I needed to fix it ha.

Ok, my physical is this coming monday so that is a big weight off my shoulders at least. I just can't wait to be medically qualified and have my nominations in. All I have left to do is my CFA for USMA (did one at the USNASS for USNA) and proofread my candidate statements for the fifth time before submitting and them I am complete.

Just ask USNA to send them to USMA.
It's done all the time between USNA, USMA and USAFA.
