Hello,
I'm a candidate for the class of 2016 and I'm a Muslim. I'm wondering if there are other Muslims at West Point and if so, are they treated the same?

Thank You.

Even during Beast with the hectic schedule they made every allowance possible for those who wanted Muslim services - all you had to do was ask for whatever you needed was the way they put it. During a briefing last night they even mentioned that the Mess Hall will accommodate all Muslims during the month of Ramadan if they choose to observe the fast. From what I've seen so far, West Point is very accepting of all religious faiths and encourages spiritual growth for everyone.

Speaking from my staff experience at USNA a few years back, Muslim midshipmen were well taken care of by the Navy Chaplains, who worked closely with Food Service about dietary needs and fasting periods, as well as educating leadership about any particular requirements.

I am sure West Point is similar. Here's the link to the WP Chaplains, call them and ask questions! Military chaplains minister to the spiritual needs of the troops, regardless of faith group. They are, in my experience, amazing people.

As far as being treated equally, performance is always the key. If you're a hardworking cadet with a great attitude, that tends to set the tone.

My experience

I'm currently an enlisted service member and during boot I had the pleasure of racking with a Muslim named, Rana. He was allowed special service times for prayer and also helped in the chow hall with food.

The military is an awesome place where we all have our separate needs and conditions, however, this is a strength for everyone to share. I have never seen anyone not accomodated or helped to the utmost capability.

I have little doubt you will be helped and supported throughout your time at West Point. Your contribution and service are highly appreciated if you make the choice to join.

Good luck, and if you ever have any other questions never hesitate to ask.

There was a Muslim international cadet in my Beast platoon. Everytime we went to the field, they brought halal meals for him. He was driven out from the field to Friday prayers. West Point goes out of their way to make sure everyone is spiritually accomodated. :thumb:

You will get harassed at West Point

If I were you I would absolutely stay away. They could care less about your being a Muslim but your tagline will get you a lot of abuse.

I would disagree, bpu. Sure you may encounter some harassment. However, that is strictly against policy. If you wish to serve the US in the military, please don't let that keep you from it.

Thank you all very much. I sounds like West Point is more accommodating than many civilian colleges. I'm relieved to hear that.

bpu's comment is about the USNA/USAFA Hopeful tagline.

Could you please rephrase that?

lol. i had that when i open my account last year. after attending sls, i decided that west point was the place for me.

how do i change it? i tired going on to settings but it wouldnt budge

Not to be petty, but what's wrong with it?

I believe the original comment was just about how he has USNA/USAFA Hopeful but he is now applying to West Point.. So some very poorly worded rivalry, I'm guessing.

To change the tagline, it's Username > About Me > Click on the little pencil icon next to occupation.

Sorry, I'm sometimes a little slow upstairs, you know... I guess I found the perfect emoticon. :welcome:
