Hey I've been practicing the CFA right now excluding the basketball throw and the mile run/shuttle run.

My question is, how am I improving? I'm trying to reach the max. Since I already screwed my GPA up, I figure maybe I can max the CFA.

I take the real CFA on August 18th (Scheduled by my instructors)

USAFA Summer Seminar
06-15-11

Basketball throw - 55 feet even (on all 3 tries 55)
Shuttle run - 9.3 ish or something like that
Pullups - 8 pullups
Situps - 50ish
Pushups - 43
Mile run - 7:46

practice cfa lolol
8-8-11

8 pullups
71 situps
50 pushups

44.444 - 13 is passing 70%
74.737 - 67 is passing 70%
66.667 - 53 is passing 70%

practice cfa lolol
8-9-11

8 pullups
74 situps
60 pushups

44.444 - 13 is passing 70%
77.895 - 67 is passing 70%
80.000 - 53 is passing 70%

practice cfa lolol
8-10-11

9 pullups
78 situps
65 pushups

50.000 = 13 is passing 70%
82.105 = 67 is passing 70%
86.667 = 53 is passing 70%

The percentages mean nothing, don't worry about it. I was just messing around with the scores.

After doing pushups and situps I really do get tired.

How am I improving? I only started 3 days ago lol I am lazyyyyy.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

And 1 question! Please answer :p

For my senior year my counselor thinks I should take 2 elective classes that are really easy that could raise my GPA. (Assuming I get like 100% in each class)

I was insisting to her that I get a job which would run from 5:00PM to 9:00PM giving me about 20 hours a week Monday through Friday for some job experience.

Does the GPA for senior year count towards your admission to the academy? Should I take the job or the 2 electives?

I don't need anymore electives since I have all the credits I need.

Make sure you don't do that practice CFA a couple of days before the real deal! Rest your muscles a little bit.

Now, what is your class rank? And standardized test scores?

You're improving on the CFA. Like Bill said, give yourself at least two days of resting muscles before the test. Some light light light running the day before should help a bit.

One thing you might try is practice one thing, such as pushups one day, situps another, and so on. But since you only have a few days until the actual test, make sure you don't overdo it, such that you are sore the day of the test. Also, try to retake it maybe a month from now, practicing in the mean time.

Not quite sure about whether GPA counts, but I'm pretty sure they'l want your transcript. Don't bomb this year!

Is it possible for you to take the job, yet not work every day during the week? It would be good to get job experience, but don't let the grades suffer. It would be good if you could get the job for a few nights a week and still do the electives.

My class rank is 89 of 509 which is about top 20%.. ;/

For the SAT and ACT, I haven't taken the ACT but I will in october.

Sat I took it 2 times. I improved in the writing section mainly. I didn't even study which was a bad decision... Now I only have like 1 chance at the SAT in septemeber and ACT in october

Beginning Junior year SAT
470 reading
590 math
470 writing

Midway Junior year SAT
480 reading
570 math
520 writing

So the admissions place will ask for the final transcript of your senior year?

Thanks haha will try to do that on the CFA.

On the job thing I don't think that is possible. This job is not any ordinary teen summer job or school job that pays minimum wage. I get like double the pay of what the average teen would get ;/ so I don't want to quit. I got recommended for the job from my AFJROTC instructor.

Instead of the 2 electives I have 2 periods off which gives me time to work on AP homework before working.

Would it be more wise to take the job or the 2 electives to raise my GPA? I can take 2 electives and the job but I won't have the extra 2-3 hours to do AP homework which could end up making my GPA worse:confused:

Well, what would be wise is to improve your standardized test scores.

BillSL - Yeah I've been working on it man hopefully when sep. and oct. comes ill be ready. I want at least 550 in CR and 600 in WR. Hopefully I get like 650 math xD

Reality check:

With the further decrease in class size and thus a fiercer competition for those new slots, you'll have to do better than 'at least 550 in CR' and 'like 650 math xD'.

Here are the averages. (Click the link below my signature for the complete brochure of the academy).

While there are some that get into the academy who have LESS than average scores, it's also true that many don't get in who have ABOVE average scores. So getting a 550. 600. and 650 isn't really helping that much. Definitely better than your current score, but not much better: You'll see in Red the averages for guys in the CFA and the average academically. You'll see that there are definitely those which much higher in the academics.

Not trying to discourage you, but rather, trying to correct your goals and attitude. DON'T THINK: "I want at least a 550, 600, 650, etc..." or "I want at least 65ft, 10 pullups, etc..." The CORRECT ATTITUDE IS: "My Goal is an 800 in EACH of the SAT tests; a 36 in EACH of the ACT tests; do as many of whatever in the CFA tests, until the person giving me the test tells me to stop because I reached the max".

Of course everyone wants this; but they don't think it's possible. So realistically, they go for the 550, 600, 650, etc... Well; I'm here to tell you that it IS POSSIBLE. It's 100% up to you. And that is the attitude you must have in life to truly succeed. Do the very best you can do. Make your goal a perfect 2400 SAT and 36 composite ACT. Not just lip service, but a REAL GOAL. Best of luck. mike.... P.S. FWIW: I know someone who did ACE the SAT with a perfect 2400 score, and they DID NOT RECEIVE an appointment to the academy. They had NO SPORTS or Leadership skills.

Scores

I agree with Brian. 2015 and the next handful of classes are becoming increasingly competitive because of the efforts to decrease the size of the cadet wing.

Another CFA question

If I am applying to more than one academy, and I know one score can count for all Academies, but would it be alright to take one for USMA now, and the USAFA one later?

Also, right now I am ~55 ft for the basketball throw and 9.5 seconds for the shuttle, any tips on improving?

Thanks!

First of all, how is your GPA? According to your class rank, it isn't that bad...
