We are going to attend the game this year and are staying in a hotel near BWI. We really don't want to rent a car and were hoping for some sort of public transportation--other than a cab. Does anyone know of shuttle services or rail services that will take you say from the airport to the FedEx field?

You can take Amtrak or MARC train to Union Station in Washington DC. Take the Red line on the Metro to Metro Center then take the Blue line out to either Morgan Blvd or Largo Town Center.
There is a pedestrian walkway from Morgan Blvd - it's .9 miles. Largo Town Center is a mile.

Depending on how many people - it might be cheaper to rent a car. If there are only two of you and you don't mind the journey, it's doable and you won't be fighting traffic on the beltway.

You can also take a taxi from BWI to the nearest Metro station - either Glenmont or Greenbelt.

FedEx Field is horribly located. For Redskins games they also run shuttle buses from the Metro. If you walk it's through a neighborhood.

They only ran the shuttles for, I think, one season about five years ago.

From the metro website:
Under federal transit regulations, Metro is prohibited from offering shuttle bus service between the Landover station and Redskins games at FedEx Field.

Ha, that was the only game I've been to. That figures. Had to watch my Titans play.

Well, then, you will visit one of the worst fields in the NFL in one of the worst locations...have fun.

I hope to get to a Redskins game this season.

When you say you walk through a neighborhood, what do you mean about the area, lots of violence, what? We have a hotel reservation at the Washington Court Hotel downtown, should plans be changed? Wife and I are going to take Metro in

The area around FedEx is so-so. Check out the hotel carefully. In the DC and Prince Georges County (where FedEx is) areas, a block in the "wrong" direction can be dangerous. Literally. Beware of really cheap hotels. I don't know of yours. If it's in Northwest DC, it's probably OK. If it's in SE, NE, or SW, I would be wary.

The last time I went to FedEx (for the USNA/USAF game) several years ago, there was bus service (for a small fee) from Metro to/from the stadium. Not sure it's still offered but would be surprised if it was not. You can't walk from the Metro -- too far. I would look at the FedEx website; it should discuss transportation from Metro, etc.

Parking at FedEx is expensive. Get there early.

No, I don't think you need to change anything. There are much worse neighborhoods, just interesting it's kind of located in the middle of a one.
 
I don't think some of you are being quite fair to either DC or Fedex Field. I have been a Redskins season ticket holder ever since FedEx opened in 1997. Also, I have attended Nationals games regularly since the team moved to RFK in 2005. Had the 15 game package this year. FedEx Field is no better or worse than most of the rest. Some of Dan Snyder's policies are sometimes hard to comprehend though. A ton of parking. There is even an independent commercial lot just north of the stadium accessable off Landover Road.

I routinely use the Metro. It is perfectly safe. What most people don't seem to realize is that you will be riding with thousands of other fans. They are going the same place as you at the same time. There is safety in numbers. After night Nats games, I routinely walk the mile or so up to the Eastern Market area, hit a bar or two, and then take the Metro back to my car which I have left at New Carrollton. And, unless you are handicapped, the walk to FedEx Field is not that far.
 
I'm being more than fair to DC and FedEx. First, I think you mean FROM RFK. That was a horrible ballpark, and National Park is much better, but the saving grace is the Green Line (although i hate green line) stop right at the ball park. If it wasn't for that, getting to the ballpark with by much hairier. It's in a horrible part of town (right next to Coast Guard Headquarters). I know which road you're not crossing. The neighborhood next to my old work is not a "walk through at night" place. I used to hug the water walking from CGHQ to game, then took the Metro home.

FedEx field has all of the issues of a poorly located field without the benefit of a nice facility. I had a season ticket package to the Nationals and have season tickets to the Capitals....both benefit from having Metro stops almost specifically made for them.

FedEx is in the middle of nowhere (why aren't they called the Maryland Redskins?). The facilities are "clean" but nothing special at all. The Raven's field is nicely located and new. FedEx is new, but it seems they created it absent of technology. I have a VP friend at the Redskins, and I hope to attend another game this year, so if things have changed...I'll let you know.

The facilities don't measure up to other NFL stadiums I've been too (Titans, Steelers, Eagles, Ravens, Janguars), but it IS better than RFK.
 
I got our tickets in the mail. Leaving here next Thursday morning, 2 days before game. We are taking the train to DC and staying at the Washington Court Hotel. We are going to do some sightseeing. I want to go the WWII memorial. As for the game itself, I think it is going to be close. Navy the winner. Everyone that's going be safe and have a great time. Best of luck to both Army and Navy. The one day they are truly enemies.

Tail Gate Facilities

We might tailgate for the very first time @ the stadium before the game. This is a bit of a silly question, but....are there porta potties available in the parking lots?
 
Back home. Some observations...

Parking lot attendants need better training. We were looking to get to one of the two handicap lots and were told: "Go up to the purple lot sign."...but it was roped off...we ask another guy in a vest..."All the spots are taken."...another vest comes up at that moment..."No, there's plenty of places. Just go back through the first open entrance and swing all the way around."...we do that but run into another rope...Another vest "You can't get through here."...the heck with it, we park and walk the extra 50 yards to the entrance. Past plenty of open handicap spots!

Nice ushers helped us find the elevators and gave us a wrist band to allow access - thank you. (Met ADM Miller waiting for the elevator.)

Find our section (401) only to see 40+ very steep steps up to our row - 4 from the top :eek:. Climbed up there and realized it was going to be a long day as doing it more than once more would have been too much. It was incredible that many of the seat leading up had the blue wheelchair sticker - but no possible wheelchair access.

Bottom line: worst seating design I've ever seen.

Also, someone please tell me why the home team - Navy - gets the bad (shady, windy, cold) side of the stadium?

Game went as expected - yeah Navy.

Seeing Pres/VP attend was nice. Obama spent most of the 3rd qtr sitting/talking with a bunch of Cadets. Nice move.

Dinner and lounging at the hotel with my Mid and her roommate was the highlight - as always.

Breakfast in DTA was nice - then no traffic problems all the way back to CT completed the weekend.
 
Like I said.... FedEx Field leaves A LOT to be desired! Poor Redskins fans.

While I generally cheer for Army during the Army/Navy game....I have to say, I really liked Navy's jerseys this year. Hope they stick with it, and avoid changing their jerseys every year. The gold on dark blue looked classy.
 
Yes - Poor Redskin Fans and not just the lousy stadium! Great game though. I noticed that they left the Army Navy end zone designs up for the Redskins game the next day - I was wondering how they were going to change them so quickly - the answer was don't change them and declare a military appreciation day! As for Navy getting the cold windy side of the stadium - that is the home team Redskins side. I've heard that the reason the opponents have the other side is that the sun shines in their eyes on the sidelines.
