I've been by West Point aboard USCGC STURGEON BAY....talk about a cutter that would be a rough ride, it's hull is the shape of a football.
Forgive my lack of knowledge...I thought USCGCs all had white hulls and the black hulled vessels were buoy tenders and other maintenance-type craft. Is that not accurate?

Correct! The three afloat communities are white hulls, black hulls and red hulls.
