Does anybody have the average GPA (unweighted, 4.0 scale) of the 2015 USAFA, USNA, USCG, USMA, and USMMA class?

GPA is generally not used or looked at as heavily as class rank is. You see, since many different school have different systems for their GPA, it becomes difficult to compare GPAs across schools. Class rank shows how well you do against your immediate peers who are judged on similar criteria as you are.

A better rewording of the question would be: what's the average class rank of the class of 2015?

I am ranked 7/248 although my unweighted GPA is only 3.7. The reason for a decent rank despite a not so high GPA is because of the level of difficulty of AP and IB courses at my school. At this point, no one in my graduating class has a perfect 4.0.

Also, I learned a 90 or above at some places is an A, while it is a B in my area.

due to the fact that school have different GPA scales, the academy takes everyone's information and has their own grading scale and they compute a GPA so everyone is on the same page. Personally i had like a 3.8 on a 4.0 scale if that helps at all

Plus they use the school's program information in the mix as well. A 4.0 at one school does not equal a 4.0 at another.

My son's GPA remained a 3.98 on his status page, but an acquaintance of ours daughter had hers reduced to a 3.8 last year and another had their son's upped (he was in the Wayzata School District in MN - arguably the best in the state) .4 on the 4.0 scale ... Alchemy if you ask me!

Best

The other factor to realize is the way appointments work, they 1st go off of your slates, which are geographically determined. A 3.7 may be too low for a candidate from No VA (district 11) and maybe the highest for a kid from District 9 in VA (not picking on district 9).

If you don't win the nom, you move onto the NWL to compete there.

So you see you can say this is the avg., but there are factors to it That is why you shouldn't say I am above the avg, and I can feel comfortable now or crap, I have no chance.

Our DS's went up by .25, but he had a boat load of AP's and was in jump start.

Just another story for reference, I had a 4.0 on a 4.0 scale and the academy re-weighted it to a 4.34

DS's high school transcript shows (1) both weighted and unweighted GPA, and (2) while the school makes it clear that only the weighted class rank is used to determine valedictorian, etc., for some reason, they also show the unweighted class rank on the transcript. DS's online app for USAFA shows the same unweighted GPA as what is on the h.s. transcript, but then they only show the unweighted class rank instead of what the school uses. Is there any point in trying to have the guidance counselor try to explain to USAFA or is this just something DS has to live with since the school offered up the stat?
