Ok, so I have a Presidential Nomination for 100% Disabled Parents. My SAT scores are pretty low, gonna take them again. Only 530 for both Math and English, ACT composite was only 23, but didn't have a calculator for the math so that sucked. (Something always goes wrong the day before the test or I just don't feel well) I am a swimmer and am training for Jr. Nationals coming up next year. I have also been invited to Underwater Rugby World Cup in Finland to represent the U.S. Also for the Colombian National Championships in Underwater Rugby. I have multiple leadership positions and have helped raise thousands of dollars for various purposes. I have over 500+ hours of community service and am extremely fit. I took the Navy SEAL challenge, I got 38 push ups(I accidentally put my knee on the ground and had to stop), but then got 85 sit ups, 16 pull ups, 9:54 1.5 mile run( the conversion time for a mile makes that time at 6:36) I have mainly all A's in my classes, have a good moral character, and also never had a disciplinary detention. I go to a private catholic school and am extremely motivated to get in here. I also plan to train to be an 18D Medic for the SEALs and make the Navy a career.

I fear you you know the reality of your circumstance and your question. SAT math score is the single most heavily weighted factor in determining scholastic qualification. You don't indicate that you are among the diversity target groups. While none here know the answer, you're in a spot right now that finds it difficult to see your appointment, regardless of your in-hand nomination. Keep trying on the SAT/ACT. Pray for mercy and grace. You might also be a candidate for NAPS, but again, that is not in the hands or determination of any here. Good luck.

18D, isn't that the Army's MOS system...? To be fair, I don't know the Navy's. Maybe the USMC is the only different one.

Anyway, you certainly have great athletics and extracurriculars. SATs make your academics seem wishy-washy, you can always work on that. Well, you need to work on it. And you obviously understand that. But, nobody can be certain as to your chances. Underwater rugby sounds awesome.

Yes, I do know that my SATs are low, That was the first time I took them sophomore year, ACT math screwed me up because I had a scientific calculator that gave me fractions instead of decimals so it was a major problem. I'm taking both tests again and aiming for at least 600 on both math and english (I've been studying) and for my ACT aiming for around 28-30 composite at least. I was a sophomore the first time I took these tests and didn't really know how they were. Another thing is I could possibly get recruited by the academy for swimming if I have Jr. National qualifying times for swimming. I'm decently close.

And 18D is a special force medic. I go for 18D training right after BUDS

Oh yes, I'm sure. I just know more about the Marine MOS system. Hopefully that will change!

So, yeah. Just gotta retake those tests and blow the roof off of them. Obviously you intend to try very hard to do just that. Can't really offer any more advice than that.

Yes and no. 18D is a Special Forces Medic. Special forces is army though... Special Forces (SF) are more commonly known as the Green Berets. However, Joint Special Operations Units like SEALs, SWCCs, Rangers, PJs, Recon and the works can all attend the JFK Special Warfare Medic school. So, you really wouldn't be an 18D per se though you would receive similar medical training to one.

Also, after BUDS I believe there's other technical training before MOS work... also there's jump school and further dive and weapons training.

That's interesting! In the Army, as far as I know, an Officer may only be a "XXA" on whatever MOS (if they get to choose), so an Officer would not be able to be an 18D in the Army.

Interesting how the Navy handles it!

It's not how the Navy handles it though.

Quote from Wikipedia (the ultimate source of collected human knowledge):
The United States Navy does not use the Military Occupational Specialty as Marines and Army normally do, but instead uses their own variant, Navy Enlisted Classification or NEC. The U.S. Navy divides their occupational specialties into ratings for enlisted personnel and designators for officers

The Navy 'MOS' (per se) for a Navy Special Warfare Officer would be 1130. Plus, officers (which you would be coming out of the naval academy) would not train to become medics. They would get some medical training but would not get the full medic course.

Apologies to Bobby, we've pretty much hijacked the thread. Although it may be relevant if it changes his goals. I was recently speaking to my cousin, who was near the end of the training pipeline to be an 18D for Army (although I suppose that it is now cleared up that only the Army fields a soldier designated 18D) but discharged for a heart condition.

Hm. I sure would like to attend those Special Forces schools. Perhaps someday I will be given some sort of training akin to it, though an officer can never be quite as in-the-fight as enlisted men and women.

EDIT: Wow, that really did get off-topic. I apologize.

How close are you to junior nationals? I myself am a swimmer and also decently close to juniors. Also how many events are you close in? I talked to the USNA coach and he said that unless you have three cuts it will be extremely hard to get a spot on the team. He said there are about 20-30 who try out for the team for a total of five spots, and unless you have three cuts or you have one and they are particularly weak in that stroke you wont get on the team.

I'm decently close in the 100 fly, i haven't updated my times officially, but over the summer I reached a 54, I might try for the 50 and the 100 free too. Depends on how I do this season because I just recently overcame my plateau. I plan to try to take a few seconds off, so im gonna be doing extreme work. Mondays- lifting and doubles, Tuesdays- triples with underwater rugby, Wednesdays- lifting and one practice, Thursday- triples with rugby again, Friday- doubles with lifting, Sat- one practice. I'm going hardcore lol
By the way, My main strokes are Butterfly, Freestyle, and I'm a good Backstroker too.

yeah I got a 1:04 on the hundred back LCM over the summer, about 4 sec. off the juniors. Most of the swims I am close to are off by about 4-5 sec. Just keep working hard and good luck.

Nice, that's really good. I need to take a off a few seconds in each event too, but as i said, I just got over a plateau. I have been working out HARD in the gym. I actually almsot beat a best time when I was out of shape haha
