NROTC question

What happens if you get a NROTC scholarship to a school but you don't get into the school ? Could you ask for the scholarship to be transferred to a school you did get into or would it just be given to someone else?? Thanks!!
 
In the spring there will be another type of board, and that is where you ask to transfer the scholarship, if there are openings they may allow you to do it. Traditionally over the 4 yrs here, I would say it is common to be able to do this, BUT and that is a big BUT, this yr will be much different than previous yrs due to the DOD budget alone, so nobody knows how much money they will be awarding this yr. If they cut the budget it could be that there will be less scholarships out there and the schools on your list could already be filled by the time this option can occur for you.

I can't recall anyone here ever not being able to transfer, however, remember this is a very small sample of all of the recipients.

Pima is not quite right for NROTC. You can request a transfer if you do not get into your assigned unit if you are picked up for a scholarship. Transfers are not guarenteed and based on availability.

It is not promised that you can transfer your scholarship to a requested school after initial placement, however, if you truly want to utilize your scholarship, you will be worked with to get into a school that does have availability.
 
^ which as I recall, even includes NROTC and NETC working with Admissions very late in the game to get a scholarship awardee accepted into a school the awardee didn't even apply to originally, and to which the Application deadline has LONG past.
 
FWIW...

From our experience the transfer process worked...thanks to P-Flying17, who is incredibly patient, calm, understanding, and an all around angel...(whom I miss conversing with, lol lol).
My DS's scholarship was placed at a University we thought forsure he would be accepted to, but it's didn't work out that way. While we waited and waited and waited to hear if he would be accepted to original placement school, DS put his name on the waitlist (just in case)for two other schools, he knew he was admitted to. And while we were awaiting a transfer decision DS also applied, in late April, to three more schools recommended by P-Flying17 that had openings in their unit...just in case again. He was accepted at those schools at the same time he learned his transfer was approved!!! Needless to say...the end of April and the beginning of May was the rollercoaster ride of a lifetime! I was barely hanging on...
DS is NROTC at Iowa State and loving every minute, it is where he was meant to be. My advise to prepare, plan, prepare and plan again. As nothing is writen in stone and can change on a moments notice...it's the bumps in the road that eventually even out that make the journey worthwhile.
 
Okay, thank you all so much!! This really helped me narrow down my school choices and pick which ones I want to put down on the NROTC app.

NROTC transfers

I just had my interviews for the NROTC MCO and the Mar. Cpt. in charge said in his briefing that the battalion commander can talk to the school's admissions office and they will usually work something out. If not, transfer is almost always available for those situations.
 
keep in mind transfers are not guarenteed to a school of choice after initial placement if selected.
