Calling All Football Fans

C'mon folks- this isn't a thread that should require moderation.
I was at that game - Coast Guard looked good yesterday for their homecoming game. They have the smallest running back I've ever seen in a college football game: Tyler Hames (5-5, 160 lbs soaking wet with lifts ) but he sure ate up Mass Maritime yesterday- 5 TDs:thumb:

For some time I’ve been lurking here on the forum. It’s really interesting watching the blood pressure build on various diverse issues. Actually some comments get me really upset. The local paper had a section on catch lines from significant movies. Which prompts my suggestion to have a page similar to the acronym page with numbered catch lines so all the members can apply them simply by referring to the numbers. For example:
1 “It’s not my dog.” Pink Panther
2 “Surely you’re not serious?” Airplane
3 “You can’t handle the truth.” A Few Good Men
4 “There’s no crying in baseball.” A League of Their Own
5 “Frankly, my dear, I don’t give a damn.” Gone With the Wind
And the universal
6 42, the answer for everything. Hitch Hikers Guide To the Galaxy

Obviously, the list can be extended and the quotes can be modified; i.e., “There’s no crying in (beast).”

Of course my favorite is from Martin Scorsese is “Look out for exegetical chiaroscuro.”

I have no idea what the post above means.
But- here's the deal: This should be just about the most innocuous thread on the forum. It's about FOOTBALL FOR HEAVENS SAKE! It's supposed to be fun!
It's ok to yank a rivals chain- that's what sports rivalries are about. But we shouldn't be demeaning each others programs or each other. And not everything needs to be responded to if you don't particularly like someone else's comment. Post about your teams- what looked good and what didn't.

Congratulations to those teams that won- as I mentioned earlier , yesterday was a good day to be a Coast Guard fan as their offense just exploded (and equally as important- Mass Maritime's offense and special teams imploded and coughed the ball up A LOT) . If you happen to be an Army fan - not such a great day yesterday, Big heartbreaker for Texas A&M. & if you are a VMI fan - none of them are great Saturday's this year.
Let's all play nice here going forward.

At some point with Army, you get used to them snatching defeat from the jaws of victory. But that's part of being a grad...cheering on your future LTs as you watch them crush your hopes for victory into a fine paste.

I've got to say it. I thoroughly appreciated seeing the Bears beat Mass. Maritime 61-30.

I could have sworn it was Eric Gerken. He has some SWEET moves, and he was tiny. I don't know how many touchdowns he had, but it seemed like some big ones. It was a great game.

Class of '61 appreciated the final score! :thumb:

It was Hames with the 5 TDs, one away from the all-time CGA record.

Gerken had set the USCGA single game record of 15 catches the week before, and at 5'8" he towers over Hames. (Although he is a 2/c, this is Gerken's last year of eligibility as he played a year of D1 before coming to USCGA).

Yes, there was significant pressure on the kicker to add the extra point, and to the delight of the Class of '61, his kick was good.

Although the 4/c who had to do 51, 54, and 61 pushups in the span of 10 minutes might not have been enjoying it as much,

The week's that to me are the most "concerning..."

Next weekend my beloved "birds" travel to "Canoe U"...and let's not kid ourselves, USNA at USN/USMC Memorial Stadium, USMA at Michie Stadium, USAFA at Falcon Stadium...doesn't matter what their record is, you're entering a snake pit.

And Navy really would like to take back AF's trophy. :zip:

So it's going to be...tough, very tough.

And then...the next weekend? OUCH...my "birds" travel to South Bend, Indiana!

While I love my "birds" and have, since the first game I attended in 1973, seen some amazing upsets...

Notre Dame in South Bend??

And a couple of weeks later...BOISE STATE IN BOISE?! :yikes:

Mass Maritime will come back! :thumb:

I hope so- Me and my two VMI buddies were some of the few on the MMA side of the field (those were some small bleachers down there- tough to see much of anything from the sideline without standing on the top row or outside the fence in the south end of the field as the sideline bleachers were literally lower than the team! I felt like a Cadet again- standing thru the whole game- and it wasn't even my Alma Mater that I did it for!) While happy outcome for USCGA on their homecoming- but MMA was disappointingly sloppy. I'm sure the coach had a few words for his punt receivers at half time:eek:

Fumble and Interceptions killed Mass Maritime.

Glad you saw a great game and Hames was outstanding. What a great kid. Small but great all around player. MMA coach has a lot of special teams work. Lots to talk about and work on. You can fish on the Canal from the south end of the stadium along the Canal anytime during any hours at MMA. If you go to a home game bring your rod and reel.

VMI goes to MMA Games?

We were sure to yell at the 4/c who did not do push ups after field goals. Wasn't there also a missed Bears FG or extra point? I feel like one was blocked. Good thing too, for the sake of '61!

I was impressed by the little kids in the other endzone wearing some kind of football jerseys with "Bears" on them, who also did push ups. Local kids football I think.

Syracuse + Pitt + ACC =

Already have Boston College and Miami that no one cares about.

Texas A&M + SEC =

Why? Prior to last Saturday, they were ranked higher than 3/4 of the SEC. That conference needs more than one school with class and players who lack criminal records. All you have right now is Vanderbilt.

It has nothing to do with Texas A&M.
Just not crazy about the SEC getting bigger and it probably won't stop with Texas A&M. They will probably add a 14th team to made the divisions even to make scheduling easier.
Because of this - Auburn may be moved to the East which could possibly have Auburn and Alabama playing twice in a season which would diminish the build-up, excitement and bragging rights surrounding the Iron Bowl.

OK. Lets get down to the real deal:
Navy Vs Air Force on Saturday. CBS 12:00 PM
Go Navy beat Air Force. Revenge for last year.

BRUNO:

MMA has a better football view at their venue although CGA has a better hockey rink at Conn College (MMA doesn't have one). CGA should be called the "Camel Juniors". Chime in any time LITS.
