Two nice articles

I needed a good cry today! Great articles! With a DD MID who wants to go Marines, it made me very proud to think that my daughter would one day be the one to possibly make a difference in someone's life.

Had to admit I worried long and hard about her decision to select Marine. Never tried to influence. Her Mom was worse. In the end it is their decision. They are adults and we can not make decisions for them. My Mother went berserk when I enlisted so what goes around comes around.

Thanks for posting those impressive articles. I continue to be amazed by the courage of the men and women who defend our freedom every day, they do not get near the amount of credit or press they deserve. As a 9/11 survivor (2 WTC ..51st floor) whose DS is trying to secure an appointment into the USNA class of 2016 , I feel we need to constantly be reminded of the sacrifices these brave young people make for us. When my DS gave as one of his reasons for wanting to attend the academy " a desire to serve my country because of what our family went through on 9/11 and all the friends we lost " I could not have been more proud. He said he started to think about serving soon after that day as an 8 yr old ... Hopefully we will begin our journey next June .

NF 01:

Fair winds and following seas and best of luck to your Son. We lost some great friends on 9/11. A kid we had known since he was born and a lot of others. They may not be called the "Greatest Generation" but they are slowly becoming the "Best Genertation". A generation that has to accept war as a fact of life.

9/11 reverberated with my daughter as well. She came to me as a 12 year old and told me she wanted to be a Marine and make a difference. The desire and drive to get into the Naval Academy, culminating with Graduation and comissioning as a Marine 2nd LT has been an amazing ride for the past decade.

Today got a text that she just got back from a 5 day field exercise (FEX) was exhasted and extreemly sore the but pride she feels is priceless. Looking forward to her next big step. TBS graduation in mid-December.

Daughter was also at FEX. They are probably together. Maybe see you at graduation. I think on Parent's day we get to fire some weapons!!! I get first choice on the old 50 and second on the SAW.

Mom has already claimed a shot at the 50 cal., I'm to take pictures.

My daughter is in Echo. Thought yours was in Fox? Can you beleive it's been four months since graduation already?

Only one shot? I also have been relegated to camera duty. Yes she is FOX. Maybe we will get the AT4. Or they will only give us an old M16. She was out in the field all last week and spent some time with ARTY. Fifteen hundred a round and they didn't even get to keep the casing. Used to have some great Beer Mugs made from those copper casings.
