My DD has recieved an LOA from USNA and is proud of this accomplisment to say the least but her first choice is, and always has been, West Point. Her mother and I scratch our heads at times trying to understand what all this means. In the long run we are sure it will fall properly into place, but for now it is what it is. My DD is very happy with Navy and is beginning to read more on their traditions. The dificulty for her now will be the MOC nomination process. With out the WP offer, but with the Navy offer, how does she approach the interviews?. She cannot hide the fact that WP is her first love. The rub is that she will be going into these interviews asking for a Navy nomination and a WP nomination. She said she will feel selfish in doing this but has no other choice. If only WP could make her an offer prior to the interviews, she could then help a Navy candidate fulfill their dream as well. She is awear of how fortunate she is with this Navy LOA, we all are. How to properly handle this MOC nomination situation is gonna be the question of the day for us. She doesn't want to go into them asking for two nominations when so many are just hoping for one. Where are the WP Gods when you need them. And just so everyone out there knows, our family feels very blessed to live in this great nation where we can have these sort of delimas. May all of you have your dreams come true, and if WP does come calling, there will be someone who has always wanted to go to Navy, smiling from ear to ear.

Question? Does anyone know if you have "pending waiver review" status on the DODMERB website if you would still be considered for an LOA?

Hey SBB, I'm pretty sure that DODMERB status doesn't affect LOA standings. I recieved an LOA from West Point, and I am currently medically disqualified.

Thanks, ConnorP for reply..do u know of moc interviews will be effected if a candidate has been currently dqed?

I've not ever seen MOC interviews made aware of DODMERB status.

Depends on your MOC. At least my MOC, he gets a list from West Point. Not sure how much is on the information. I am a member of a MOC SA nomination panel for sevearl years - never asked the question about the medical qualification. Don't offer the information unless asked as you don't know if you will get a medical waiver or not. For WP, up to 15% of incoming class has medical waviers.

On a side note, at least for my State West Point closed a few application files of medically disqualified file. My RC told me the he will start closing application file for inactivity, not meeting the minimum qualification, and medical disqualfication.

I am a FFR, had a reverse of you DD with a kid I worked with few years ago. Got an appointment from WP early, didn't get an offer from Navy until late Spring.

My advice to your DD is ask for both nomination and let MOC make a decision, unless MOC limit your DD to only one nomination. Based on the LOA, your DD worked hard and earn the right to ask for two nominations. Giving out nomination is about sending the best qualified candidates to SA, not make kids feel good about themselves. Nomination does not equal appointment.

Thank you MEMBERLG! My DD is greatful but will wait and continue to inhance her file with the standerdized testing. WP told her to focus only on the Reading(ACT)/Verbal(SAT) (not so much Math= 630) on the SAT/ACT because she has maxed her points in the other two areas (athletics & Leadership). Thank you for this information and she will always drive on!

Is your daughter in contact with a local WP liaison officer (MALO/FFR)? He or she should be able to give an assessment on your DD's chance of getting an appiontment to WP. Active MALO/FFRs have access to the admissions database and it allows them to see what how competitive a Congressional district is.

This goes to all SA applicants, your local liaison officer is there to help you. Of course this only works you have "active" liaison officers in your area.

Her MALO/FFR is in town and absolutly loves my DD as much as my DD loves her. She is a former grad and is pulling for my DD as much as we are and we think the world of this lady!!! You have no idea what her and her husband mean to our family! However, we understand that WP is not easy and my DD, being weak in one area, can be kept out. Navy has seen through her weak spot and looked at my DD for all that she has done to prepare herself for the challenges that are a head of her. If you could give me your email address i'd love to send you my DD's resume and info and you will see why Navy did what they did. I have learned a lot about WP admission situation and have gathered they are on such a different path from the norm that hardly anybody can guess whats next. As parents we want what our children want and we will do all that is in our power to see it through. Thank you for taking your time with us.

So, you seem to be of the opinion that because West Point is concerned about your daughter's weak area and hasn't offered her an LOA for an extremely competitive class, they are "on such a different path from the norm"?

Look..I'm not assuming anything and i do not think my daughter deserves anything she hasn't earned. As far as a different path than the norm...well normally WP has given out a great deal more LOA's in years past..right? From all that i have read it just seems that way. Not trying to say anything more than i hope my DD gets into WP for the class of 2016. She loves the school and is willing to join in. Her mother and i are very proud of her and we are using this forum to get a few things out in the open to hear opinions from folks who may know a little more than we think we do. The last thing i want to do is put her in a bad light. Just getting some stuff out there i guess.

One more thing if i may: my DD has nothing to do with my venting on this forum. I'm just a parent who has a DD who has wanted this (WP) most of her life and as parents we get worried from time to time. Speaking of time, i know there is still time....just sayin'.
