Are the instructor pilots at pensacola only Navy officers? Or do they have marine corps and coast guard aviators as well?

This is dated information (32 years) but there were numerous Marine instructor pilots. I don't remember any Coast Guard instructors. I certainly never flew with one in the almost two years (lots of delays due to blockages in the pipeline) I was in flight school .

Just asked my classmate who's at flight school right now. Yep, there are Coast Guard instructors too. So, there are Coast Guard, Navy, and Marine flight instructors.

And Air Force as well I believe. (there's even an Air Force Flight Surgeon stationed at Whiting...as of 2yrs ago anyway)

Thanks for all of the info guys! Are the Instructor Pilots typically fixed wing or could I still be an instructor pilot if I was a rotary wing pilot?

Rotary and fixed wing.

Remember Sam, at some point you actually have to be assigned to Coast Guard units...

Want to go on exchange, want to be in instructor at Naval Flight School....

I had classmates who were assigned to Navy ships, and enjoyed some of the people they worked with, but were very happy to return to the Coast Guard.

Don't be too excited to taste all of the services out until you spend a nice chunk of time figuring out your own, you'll appreciate it more.

not a call out Sam, these are good questions! Keep thinking about all of the possibilities out there for you!

The instructors in the VT's (primary flight school) are a mixed bag of rotary wing and fixed wing pilots. I found the rotary wing guys to be the most fun to fly with.

At advanced (HT's) (helo's) they are all rotary wing pilots.

Of course they were more fun.
