Hey all, Im new to the forums but have looked at the forum and many posts for guidance over the past few years. As my application process is in full fruition, I have often thought about which school I would most like to be at, why, and it is is at all likely I would even be accepted. My Guidance counselor says I have a very good shot of being accepted at norwich, and due to my SAT math grade, am more on the fence of being accepted to Texas A&M. My love and respect for both schools already runs deep, and I haven't yet been accepted to either as I have yet to complete my application process. I would absolutely join the corps at both of those schools, obviously

Now to the point of this post haha. I know some of you are alums from either Norwich and A&M, and I was just wondering if you could tell me about your experiences there, what you enjoyed, what maybe you didn't enjoy so much. What I love about A&M in particular is the traditions. Thats what attracted me to the school in the first place, I just love it. I love the family vibe.

I have yet to visit Texas A&M, but I have visited norwich, had a meeting with the commandant, had a meeting with the head of NROTC marine corps option, and took a tour of the campus. My experience there was great!

thanks for taking the time to read my post.

I'm a fish at A&M right now and I love every minute of it. It's tough, I'm not gonna lie, but it's supposed to be tough. Everything we do is for a reason. I could not imagine myself anywhere else. PM me if you have any specific question about the Corps and I'll be happy to answer them.

Thanks and Gig 'Em

Also, try to visit A&M if you can. Not only does it increase your chances of admission, but most people fall in love the first time they step on campus. Spend the Night with the Corps is an outstanding program.

Very good advice. My DS overnighted at A&M, Norwich, Citadel and VMI before settling on VMI. Explore your options and go with the best fit for you. BTW, College Station is a great place, but man it's HOT down there. It was over 95 when we were there last April. Norwich is on the other end of the spectrum -- really cold in the winter.

Very good advice. Our Fish did an overnight at VMI, visited the Citadel, A&M as well as a number of more traditional schools. The Fish decided on A&M and, so far, seems pretty pleased about being there most of the time (it is a roller coaster). A friend of the family from Scouts is a Rat at VMI and had also seriously considered Norwich. From the perspective of a parent with no first hand experience, all seem to be fine schools with both simularities and differences.

So Rancid I'm kind of curious about how your search is progressing? these really are markedly different worlds- what are you looking for by looking at these two schools? That might help narrow your search a little

Well, I have partly finished my application to norwich (need to upload essay and waiting for teacher recommendations) sent all my SAT scores to all my prospective schools, and am planning a visit soon to Texas A&M

Basically, I found these senior military colleges back when I was a freshmen, and it was like everything I've ever wanted. So, essentially, all the colleges Im applying to have the corps of cadets in common. As far as the differences between them, I understand they are.. very different worlds, with the corps of cadets being their uniting factor. It has been difficult to narrow down which I desire to be at more.. as things like location, weather, and such is negligible to me. I mean it matters, but I think the schools atmospheres at both, the corps, the people, outweigh any weather or location type factors. Also I have decided I would much rather be at a school that is part civilian and part corps. Not that The citadel and VMI are completely out of the running, I just think part civilian, part corps, is better suited for me.

I think honestly, if I had my way, I would choose to be at Texas A&M, but like I've stated, my SAT math score is lower (low enough) then they would like. But when I read about A&M, when I watch videos, or interact with A&M cadets, I get this feeling I just don't have for the other schools; I just get goosebumps. Im very excited to visit aggieland soon, any advice, about any of the schools, would be greatly appreciated.

thanks for your response

one suggestion- if what really interests you is the Part Civilian/Part Corps aspect , you might also look at Va Tech. It's a much bigger University than Norwich- but considerably smaller than A&M with a whole different feel to it than A&M- it's also a Corps of Cadets that has been around since 1870 so they have a long tradition of their own. We had a few Hokies on here - perhaps one or two will chime in?

Good luck:thumb:

BTW- here is a link to Virginia Tech that will get you more information. http://www.vtcc.vt.edu/
VPI used to be VMI's big rivalry when I was a Cadet- so it pains me to admit this  but they have a really beautiful Campus down there in Blacksburg and Tech is a good school. If you are interested in A&M and Norwich because of the part military/part civilian aspect you really ought to take a look at the Hokies.

One additional thought for you to consider if you are interested in a school with a Corps of Cadets inside a larger civilian setting. NorthGeorgia College located in Dahlonega GA. While I don't know a lot about North Georgia- I do know at least one of their alumni who was one of the finest soldiers/leaders I ever knew. Give them a look: http://www.northgeorgia.edu/militarycollege/

Thank you Bruno for your input.
I have looked at Virginia tech before (my leadership class teacher went there and commissioned as an army officer)

However I heard that admission wise Virginia tech is very statistic/data oriented. Meaning of you don't really meet or exceed what they are looking for acdemically, then there isn't a lot of wiggle room for you. Nothing about VT stood out to me as much as the other schools for some reason, although I'm sure it's a beautiful school with an outstanding corps.

Thanks again.
