My daughter has now submitted everything to the admissions office (application, letters of recommendation, transcripts, test scores, etc). Would you recommend calling or e-mailing the admissions office to verify that they have received everything? It appears that there is no way of knowing if they do in fact have the transcript and test scores.

Thanks

I contacted my admissions officer to verify that the academy has all of the required forms. This option works too.

Suggest That You or Daughter Call Admissions

I called Admissions earlier this week to confirm that DS' application was complete even though I ordered SAT results to be sent to USCGA in mid-September and sent the transcript package via certified mail. DS has cross-country immediately after school, so he can't call Admissions' during their office hours. Admissions confirmed that his application is complete.

The surprise was that a "Plan B" school contacted DS a day or two ago informing him that they still need his SAT score report. I ordered SAT reports for USCGA and the Plan B school at the same time in September.

As you know, we can't tell from the web site whether Admissions has received test scores and the transcript. The woman I spoke to in Admissions said they want to implement a method of informing candidates of the status of their applications, but haven't been able to do so because of resource constraints (and innumerable inquiries about the status of applications).

scores and whatnot

Here's a quick fix:

ACT and SAT (especially ACT) are VERY slow. I simply get my school to validate and seal them (as they somehow get to my school quickly), then I overnight them :thumb:

After posting my reply yesterday, I went onto the College Board site to check the status of a second set of scores I ordered on October 17 for some other schools. They were all listed as "pending" (nine days after I ordered them!) I know they have a gazillion reports to process, but my recollection from when I placed the orders is that the reports were going to be provided to the schools electronically.

I'm not trying to cause panic, but I think it prudent to check on the status of the applications, given that you and DD are are partially at the mercy of DD's guidance counselor and the College Board; as Goldenlion notes, the College Board is slow; and one can't check the status of those two items on the USCGA site. My daughter tried calling the admissions office and was only able to leave a voice mail. She hasn't heard back yet. She tried e-mailing them. The message was bounced back being undeliverable.

I guess we just need to cross our fingers that they did in fact receive everything.

All her other applications to civilian schools, ROTC, etc, all show a checklist of the items and the date that they received the item. It would be nice if the Academy could update their system in the future.

Not sure what e-mail address she's using, but I would recommend your daughter contact her Admissions Officer directly:

Our applicants have a similar checklist (on their personal activity page) for all required application items except the high school transcript and ACT/SAT scores, which is why we recommend those items be sent with delivery confirmation so you'll know that it arrived...that way you don't need to keep your fingers crossed. I know it doesn't help this year, but next year's personal activity page will include high school transcript and ACT/SAT scores on the checklist.

DD called admissions this morning and was told they can't check to make sure transcript is there as they are too busy sorting and entering data. Guess we will have to keep our fingers crossed

Who did she speak with? The processing staff is too busy sorting/entering data to confirm if individual items have been received, but the Admissions Officers are not...that's why your primary point of contact in our office should always be your AO...it's their job to help applicants throughout the process. If you send me a PM, I can check on the transcript. Again, this is why we recommend sending it with delivery confirmation so you know it's here.

Run around on admissions

My son applied EA and submitted the application, PFE, etc at the end of Oct. He did the CFAD at the beginning of the month and while we were there I asked the admissions office if there was any way to make sure transcripts and test scores arrived. He told me to go through the AO. When we contacted the AO, he said he did not have access to that information and THEN suggested to us that we should have sent it registered mail....We have been corresponding with him since last year. Nice guy, but ZERO help.... has anyone else had success getting any confirmation?

We had to call the admissions office directly to find out. Some other things Objee was able to help us out on.
