I am no longer interested in attending the Academy, due to several personal reasons. How should I go about canceling my application? I no I shouldn't just ignore everything, but i am unsure if there is a process to droping out of the candidate phase...

All you have to do is call your ALO. Explain it to him/her, and they will take care of the rest. Now; as a matter of respect; if you happened to have already applied to your congressmen for nominations, I would send them a thank you email, and explain that you have changed your plans. This way they don't waste a nomination accidentally because them didn't find out in time. I say that, because most moc's are doing their interviews and nominations in the next couple weeks. Best to luck in your future. mike...

I think you need to do it in writing. You should probably contact your counselor at the Academy. Phone numbers and extensions are on the candidate file page when you log on to the application.

Not really. Your ALO can "end it all" for you with a simple action on his/her part. Call and tell him/her. But as CC said: please explain it as much as you can/will to the ALO so they can answer any questions USAFA might have for THEM.

But an ALO can "end it" VERY easily.

You can also call the admissions rep and have your packet pulled.

Again as others have stated they will discuss why you have come to this decision. Think of it as an "exit" interview. It will also allow you that time to think long and hard about pulling the packet.

You are not the 1st nor will be the last to do this, that is one of the reasons why you see such a large drop between the amount that apply and the amount that qualify. It is not necessarily they were all not 3 Q, some decided later on that they were not a match for the AFA.
