Coach Letter of Recommendation

My DD's swim coach seems to be a little too busy. DD asked her to complete recommendation two and a half weeks ago. When my DD approached her this morning about completing recommendation before EA deadline, she responded " I have until Nov 1st, right?" This left a bad taste in DD mouth. She is afraid that either the recommendation will be rushed or not completed on time. Can we change the coach? Would it look bad have a coach from two years ago complete it? Any suggestions on how to proceed would be greatly appreciated.

And as for the coach change, My opinion is that I would want a better written LOR than a rushed one, even if it's a coach from two years ago.

I would tell you to stay on top of this. A glowing recommendation is great but timeliness is better. We have run into a similar circumstance and my DS's application to USMA, USNA and USAFA were all affected negatively by teacher recommendation letter delays. We finally had to call the Naval Academy directly and find a helpful person to actually call the school to get something done. Not to mention countless hours spent at his school going from teacher to Principal to get them off their duff.

It's almost backwards logic. Some of the teachers are flattered and honored to be writing the letters for such outstanding students and in doing so want to be helpful. Unfortunately, to the contrary their carefulness delays their actions and it becomes a detriment to you. Your academic records will testify to your true abilities and the letters need to be complimentary but not Pulitzer prize winning essays.

I would suggest you stay on top of this and be persistent that there is a time crunch to get this done. The delays are not helpful.

Early is better for several reasons and if you wait to long your application just becomes a file in the pile.

And a rushed letter from a teacher with an attitude may hurt you worst of all.

A very important reminder to applicants: select teachers who like you.

A "glowing recommendation" that is late for EA will simply put you in the RA pool.

A "timely" letter from a teacher who feels pressured by the student and his/her parents may get the applicant a thin white envelope.

does the math teacher have to write a letter of recommendation or just fill out an evaluation. I ask because I know my coach had to and not sure about my English teacher they submitted it the morning i sent it to them so i assume no, and my math teacher is the only one that hasn't submitted it yet. Thanks
