After two weeks of having a completed file with a service connected nomination and multiple emails to my RC and MALO, I have learned that my file is going to the admission committee next Tuesday. It is my understanding that my file was checked by my RC and double checked by another and then sent to the committee. Does anyone know the process of the checking, double checking and how the committee conducts themselves?

That process is called 'Qualifying' your file.
Once a candidate's file is complete, their RC will review the file. If everything looks good, then it is forwarded on to an Admissions Committee member. Once they review it and everything in the file looks good to them, then they forward it on to another RC who does this review process.
Once a file has been through this 3 check process and it all looks good, then that is when the candidate gets a 'you are Qualified' letter.
The RC presents a slate of 'qualified' candidates with noms (from his region) to the Admissions committee for a vote every Tuesday.

About 3 weeks ago my son's MALO told him he had been moved into the "qualified" category. Does everyone that is qualified get a qualified letter and how long is the lag time between being "qualified" and getting the letter?

Packer -
getting a Qual letter seems to be RC specific. Some candidates get them and some don't. Or it could be that the RC is so slammed busy right now and sending Qual letters is backlogged.

So the answer to your question as to whether or not DS will get a letter once qualified is - maybe, maybe not.

As he should be. :thumb:
If his MALO said he is qualified then no need stalk the mailman for a Qual letter.

I received Qual Letter this past Monday(10.31 - Happy Halloween!) even though RC said I was fully qualified about 6 weeks ago.

buff81 - If I were lucky enough to earn a Nom in the next two weeks, what is the process with USMA Admissions Committee now that I am considered "fully qualified"?

Just curious about the details of how the committee starts to consider those that have recieved Congressional Nominations and are fully qualified.

Thanks!

I already have a nomination and i was told that my file is going to the committe next week. does this mean that i have been checked by two rc's and i am infact qualified.

Hooah1775-
When the MOC noms start coming in to West Point - the offers of appointment will go to the fully qualified vacancy winners and LOAs.

Those fully qualified candidates who were nominated but not the vacancy winner or don't have a LOA - will go on the NWL.

To receive an appointment - a candidate must be fully qualified with a nomination. However, not every fully qualified candidate with a nom will receive an appointment as the class size is smaller than all those who qualify for an appointment.

I just found out that I have received the nomination from my senator and my file is complete. When can I expect to hear back regarding an appointment?

Well - it depends.

It depends on whether you are fully qualified. A complete file does not means you have been deemed fully qualified yet (the 3 check system described earlier in this thread).

It also depends on whether you are the vacancy winner for your Senator.
-If they turn in a Competitive slate - you still have a nom but West Point decides (by WCS) who gets that Senator's slot (vacancy winner).
-If they turn in a Principal with Competing Alternates slate or a Principal with Numbered Alternates slate and you are the Principle (P-Nom) on either one of those, then you will receive an offer of appointment IF you are fully qualified.

I have received a nomination and the letter saying I am fully qualified so does this mean that my file will go to the committee this coming Tuesday? And if so, will a letter be mailed out this week with either an appointment, rejection or placement on the NWL?

If you received a qualification letter, I am almost certain that the admission committee gave it to you. therefore they reviewed your file. As previously stated in the thread , it depends on you nomination, competitive or principal. Does your portal show that you have the nomination? It would be better not to get your hopes up and do not expect anything for a few weeks.
However what the best thing to do is send an email to your RC's secretary. I had a complete file and service connected nomination since october 15. I assumed my file was going to be reviewed the following tuesday. Nothing happened. I assumed the tuesday after. nothing. I sent an email and found there was an issue with my file and i was told that my file would go to the committee this coming tuesday. They are very helpful if your are nice to them.

Jayhawk2325 -
you have a MOC (Senator's) nom and are fully qualified.
At this point in the admissions process and for your specific situation- you have to be that Senator's vacancy winner in order for your file to be voted on for an offer of appointment.
