Marist College has just approved the budget for our trip to Europe. Cadets will travel from Paris to Normandy to visit the D-Day sites. Next stop will be Northeastern France where we will visit some battlefields from the Middle Ages and WWI. We continue on to Belgium where we visit Waterloo and sites from WWI and WWII. Then on to Germany where we visit sites from WWII and Charlamagne's conquests. Next stop is Luxembourg where we visit sites from the Battle of the Bulge. The trip concludes with 2 days in Paris.

Marist College will cover the cost of:

air fare
lodging
ground transportation in Europe
2 meals a day

Cadets will pay for:

lunch
postcards

Thank you Marist College !!

Wow, what an incredible learning experience. Way to go Marist College!

This is an extraordinary opportunity for your cadets. Also, it's a great example of a school supporting and promoting its ROTC program.

Who gets to make the trip?
How often do you make this trip or trips like it?

I was wondering that too. Our DS's AFROTC unit nears 175 cadets. I can't see how they could afford to send all 175 on the trip.

I do agree what a great opportunity for these cadets. Good job getting the grant Marist.

There are benefits to being part of a smaller program.

12 of our Cadets went on the Hawaiian trip last Spring.

8 of our Cadets will go on the European trip this Spring.

Both trips will be repeated next year. All of our contracted Cadets will have gone on at least one of these trips by Spring 2013.

Other trips in the planning process include Spain-Morocco and Costa Rica.

I would think that is a great selling point to apply to your school.

Winter training at Ft. Rich in AK beats Ft. Dix :shake: I got married at Maguire AFB,(attached to Dix) I know Ft. Dix very well. People from Jersey call it the Pine Barrens, because there is nothing there!

:)

That's really exciting for the cadets! I had to post (I'm a lurker) but I am stationed in Germany. I love visiting all the monuments here. Will the cadets also visit Lorraine? It is really an eye opener seeing the German war graves. So somber. The men were older than the typical kids america sends. Its a great trip! Enjoy it!

We will be staying in Aachen for part of the trip. Is there a particular site that you would recommend ? How far is it from Aachen ?

I'm jealous. I'm sure the casts will acquit themselves well on these battlefields.

I would imagine your Normandy itinerary will include the American Cemetery and Memorial overlooking Omaha Beach. En route there FC Delahanty and I visited the Caen Memorial. It is considered to be the best World War II museum in France, and I highly recommend it.

Aachen huh? Pretty significant town to the overall scope of the American push into Germany, nice choice.

Colorado State University is sending 20 students to do something that sounds like it may be the same. 5 AROTC, 5 AFROTC, and 10 History majors will get to go. Sign up just started and it looks like there is going to be quite a bit of competetion as Cadre selects who gets to go among those interested.

From what i've heard so far, it sounds like a wonderful program, an experience well worth the <$400 it costs CSU students for the 1 College Credit version of the program.

It's being called "connecting generations" here, but it sounds the very much the same. Will your program involve world war II veterans to help teach the material?

I thought it was just our college, but now I wonder just how many people will be taking part in this?

I live a bit further south from where you guys are staying.

When you go to luxenbourg to the memorial there, if you have time less than 5 mins away is a german war burial, I strongly recommend a visit. It gives perspective that they lost too. About an hour from that is the Lorraine Memorial, largest in Europe. Will you go there?
