Just curious...and it probably varies. About how long after the MOC interviews will we have to wait to hear how DS did? We are in Texas-Ron Paul (14th District). What about Senatorial decisions and VP?

In IL, my DS's MOC nomination Applications were due in October for 1 Senator, and in November for Congressman and other Senator. He found out the results in Nov (1st senator), Dec (Congressman), and Jan (2nd Senator). It definitely varied for my DS.

Good Luck. :thumb:

I had to wait two weeks to hear back from my senator, and a week to hear back from my congressman.

Do you know when we should hear about an interview I've received letters fro both senators that my package is complete but nothing about an interview?

They may not do interviews. My DS only had an interview with his Congressman. Neither Senator did interviews in Kentucky last year.

Senatorial nominations - Texas

For at least the last couple of years, Cornyn called his nominees right after Thanksgiving. Hutchison waits until January. They try not to "double" nominate. So, if you receive a Cornyn nomination, you'll receive a letter from Hutchison saying that, since you already have a nomination, you will be removed from her list. Each congressman has their own schedule. Ours did not conduct interviews until January.

My C3C son got his nomination from Sen Hutchison first week of November two years ago. The senator's office does not do interviews and only relied on the documents submitted. Also, the two TX senators and our congressman (McCaul) talked to each other since my DS got letters from the other MOCs congratulating him on his nomination but saying that he did not got theirs.

What I heard, not sure if it is 100% correct, is that Sen Hutchison gives out a few nominations early November and completes her slate by end of January.

Good luck on those waiting for nominations and appointments.

I am amazed to learn that not all MOC's interview and that some don't announce their nominations until January. In Maryland 8th district everyone is granted an interview (that way last year). MOC staff feel that anyone who made the effort to complete the application deserves an interview. My DS heard within two weeks after each of his late fall interviews. Best of luck to all awaiting news.

Our MOCs are only now getting into the final documentation processing and interviews. It's pretty late but it may serve to give applicants maximum opportunity to get their packages in and improve their test scores and grades - wide swathes of this state are pretty uncompetitive compared to more urban areas. Although my son has a Presidential - I'd say it won't help too much this cycle and he's treating these interviews as "do or die" opportunities.

Best of luck to all of you!

During the class of 2014 process DS was called by Sen Hutchison's office in early November. IDK if that is because he had his LOA already or not.

Stayfocused- It will probably also vary on state due to the size and competitiveness of the state. One of my senators (VA) interviewed the top 40 or 50 for each of the four academies on different days. The other senator doesn't do interviews at all. My Congressman interviews all of the candidates in his district. I'm pretty sure it is safe to say that there is no real correlation between MOCs in different states (or even in the same state) and that you either have to find someone who is in your districts from last year, someone who knows the process for your particular Congressional Representatives or just wait to find out. The waiting is what kills people (especially me  ), good luck to you all!

Like everyone else said, it varies from place to place. I applied last year and I found out roughly two weeks later. I am reapplying this year and I found out 4 days after so it just depends. Hang in there!! They should let you know either way

Just hang in there. What happened last yr, may not be true for this yr.

What you need to understand is how the WCS system works once you have that nom in hand.

No charging can occur until the entire slate has received their WCS. If Candidate Procrastinator from Sen. A does not submit their CFA until Feb (their right), and the other 9 have. Sen. A. will not be charged an appointee until that candidate has a WCS.

This does not mean, they can't appoint someone from the slate...i.e. Candidate LOA from Sen A's list, or Candidate Smith that was also on Cong. Paul's list. It just means that Sen A. will not be charged until everyone has a WCS.

AFA is skimpy on LOA's not every slate will have a candidate with an LOA. Which brings back the fact that getting the nom is important, but don't leap to the assumption that you will hear a :thumb: or  shortly after getting the nom., unless you have that LOA.

They don't call it Mass Mailing March for grins and giggles. In yrs passed it has been the time that the majority will hear if they were appointed. You will see the appointed list in March go from 40-50 in Feb to 125+ in March.

Enjoy your life now. Keep updating your records, but understand this is a roller coaster ride. You will get the nom., and be thrilled for a few days until reality sets in, and you now are fighting again like you did for the nom., to be the best on that slate the AFA board judges. WCS!

Also do yourself a favor don't look at the appointed list searching to see if they won a nom from Paul, or the Sens. You don't know their background. For example, maybe they have an LOA. (LOA's are not necessarily charged to the MOC). Maybe, they have a Presidential or ROTC, and you don't.

You can't take a leap that if you see a kid from Paul's district that that nom is gone, unless you know that it was their only nom and they had an LOA. They usually will state their district or state, and date, but you don't know their charging source. Even than you could still be appointed from the NWL.

The more you understand the appointment process the more you will feel comfortable because you will say March is when the fat lady starts to sing her aria, and July (I-Day) is when she stops singing.

The fat lady right now is just warming up her vocal chords. In the next few weeks we will start to hear little parts of the musical piece, but just parts.

Where do you "see the appointed list"?

It is on this site. Trust me it will light up like a christmas tree when appointments start flying, it will probably start lighting up in the next month.

The fact is I am saying don't do this to yourself. All you will do is go crazy daily to see who is on the list, and it has nothing to do with whether you will get the BFE or graduate from the AFA.

Get the BFE on June 16th, will not equate into being unworthy, or that they will graduate at the lower 5O%. Getting an apptmt on Nov. 1st with an LOA, or principal nom does not mean they will be top 10%. What matters is what the candidate does as a cadet at the AFA.

I know quite a few that got their apptmt during Mass Mailing March who graduated as the the top 10% out of the AFA for their yr group.

The slate is cleared clean when they ride the bus. LOA, principal, etc. will not save them at BCT. What will save them is their drive and desire to stay.

That is why I say don't get wrapped up on how you get appointed. Get wrapped up on how you will succeed when you are there.

Oh. There's not an "official" appointed list. Just those that speak up on this forum?

BINGO!

Being at the AFA is a long tough road. You (the student) has to really want to be there, and willing to go through many adversities to graduate.

Correct. At least not published on USAFA's website. As a parent of a cadet, I got hold of a list of those entering Basic, but it was unofficial.

Sorry, I thought when you asked about the apptmt list, as a poster you were referring to this site.

Just as I said it will light up like a Xmas tree, I meant this forum.

You will go insane if you try to find a list of appointees for 16 from the AFA.

Nomination Letter???

Our DD received a letter from our Senator stating "Congratulations, you've been selected to receive a nomination to the USAFA."
There were no indications of whether this is a principal nomination or if she is on a list with other nominees and now the Academy chooses from that list or what?
We're just confused on really what the letter means?
Any advice?

Have your DD contact your Senator and find out their method of nominating. They will be able to tell her the type of nomination.

Congrats to your DD. This is a step towards appointment. :thumb:
