My son submitted his application prior to the EA deadline and never received a confirmation letter that his application was under review. He did however get a letter from DoDmerb requesting he go for the medical exams, which he did this week.

I have read several posts indicating this is a promising sign.


I am wondering where this puts him in the process. Would it be safe to assume that he is in an upcoming round and will come before CCEB once the medical exam has been submitted?

If he is only applying to USCGA, the other service academies have different policies about when they schedule their candidates for the DoDMERB medical exam, then the fact that DoDMERB has contacted him means his record is complete and ready for review by our CCEB. If you want to send me a PM, I can confirm his status.

Yes, maybe even sooner.

(They can award a conditional appointment pending DODMERB qualification, or wait until DODMERB status is determined.)

Either way, the process is rolling......... :thumb:
 
Good to know my son is in the same boat..... No word from admissions but went for his medical and eye exams last week.

Are the EA criteria for referal to DODMERB the same the same as accepting a DQ for review? Higher? Lower?

I don't think I understand the question, but the CCEB will review every complete record...even if it's one that we didn't think was competitive enough to schedule for a DoDMERB medical exam. The "competitive enough" standard is the same whether a student applys under EA or RA. If the CCEB recommends an applicant for either a direct (2016) or CGAS (prep school) appointment, and they weren't previously forwarded to DoDMERB, then we would immediately do so.
 
Let’s assume an applicant is at the “competitive enough” standard and is scheduled to DODMERB and subsequently the applicant is DQ’d at the examination. In the past, CGA would decide if the applicant were to receive waiver review if he/she were “competitive”.

It seems to me that if the “competitive enough” standard were more (or equal) rigorous than “competitive” then all DODMERB DQ’s would automatically be reviewed by CGA. However, if the “competitive enough” standard were less than “competitive” then the applicant might go to DODMERB, get DQ’d , yet not be reviewed because they were not “competitive”. Which is it?

And they still will follow that procedure.

My head is spinning.

All candidates who are competitive for a USCGA appointment and are subsequently DQ'd by DODMERB are considered for waivers.

You are forgetting the possibility that a candidate's DODMERB examination may have been triggered by another academy. In that case, a candidate who is not competitive for a USCGA appointment (and may have already been DQ'd by DODMERB) would probably not be reviewed for a waiver.

Medically disqualified applicants who are recommended for an appointment (either to CGAS or the Academy) by the CCEB will be considered for a medical waiver. Medically disqualified applicants who are not recommended for an appointment (either to CGAS or the Academy) by the CCEB will not be considered for a medical waiver...because they obviously don't need one. The CCEB is informed of an applicant's medical status, so the two processes are completely separate.
