Last year, I instituted a holiday tradition for all the parents across United States who have students attending Kings Point. This is a tradition that makes all of us feel close and we bond together. The mids feel very close to you and you feel close to them.

This Thursday afternoon, Dec 8th, at the Christmas Cookie Cafe the mids will be singing at Karaoke, decorating porcelin ornaments to give to their Moms, Grandmothers, Sisters and Girlfriends. They also will be having a contest with decorating gingerbread houses.

Everyone in the school is invited, including administration and professors. They will be enjoying the 500 dozen cookies sent in by parents, the coffee, tea, lemaonade, milk. BUT the SPECIAL THING THAT THEY WILL SHARE WITH ALL OF YOU PARENTS, NO MATTER HOW FAR AWAY YOU ARE, WE ALL DRINK THE SAME HOT MULLED CIDER. YOU make it at home and enjoy a cup with all of the mids, and smell the aroma. You will smell and taste what your own mid is enjoying at Kings Point and you will feel close.

MOM GUEST'S HOT MULLED CIDER
(from the Christmas Party)
3 whole cinnamon sticks
4 1⁄2 teaspoons whole cloves
½ teaspoon salt
Combine above three items in cheesecloth closed with a rubber band or a tea ball.
9 cups pineapple juice
9 cups cranberry juice (not cranberry cocktail juice)
4½ cups water
1/3 to 1 cup brown sugar - I go light on the brown sugar (1/3 cup)
Mix all together in a pan on the stove, put spice bag in, turn up heat and bring to a simmer. Leave spice bag in for 1⁄2 hour, no more, or the cider becomes bitter. I pour the cider into a PRE-HEATED crockpot (so it doesn't crack), then set on low and let it go forever. The aroma and taste are wonderful.

Cookie Cafe is an amazing invention of parents across US working as a team to help the morale at Kings Point. It is so important to the students as they take a break in the week to just relax and unwind.

Have a wonderful holiday.

thanks!

Oh, great...just leave all the Dads out once again! Dads..who knew?

Just kidding...this is a great thing to do and all the recipients will be thrilled to receive their gifts...great idea and I would think great fun for the Mids.

Dads, grandfathers and uncles are very important

My error, sorry. My husband always worked very closely with me at Cookie Cafe, I couldn't have done it without him. Many Dads bake the cookies, travel with their wives to help as volunteers, set up the tables, coffee, carry things, and are there to chat with the mids. We always talk about the female side of volunteering as we are the more emotional soft side of the Cookie Cafe. BUT YOU MEN ARE JUST AS IMPORTANT AS THE WOMEN. THANKS FOR ALL YOUR HELP AND ENCOURAGEMENT. I believe the men bring a more well rounded side to Cookie Cafe and you are very appreciated !!!!
