How long after a ROTC board does it take to be notified whether or not you've been selected (particularly for Marine Option NROTC)?

I was notified on October 18 on the application status website. I turned my application in on August 5. I have no idea when the decision was made, how often boards meet, or when boards meet, but the time between submission and the notification was three months and two weeks.

I'm guessing that I was selected somewhere in September or October though, so I'd say it's more like a month or so. If your application is on the fence, it may be passed over to the next board again and again.

I'm Navy Option NROTC, however. I've heard that Marine Option has different boards, so it could be very different.

From my understanding, the NROTC/Marine Option scholarship results from the first board are going to start being notified just before Christmas. The results have to be at NSTC by Dec 1 and then the status changes will start after that point and hopefully those selected on the first board will get news just before Christmas. I'm hoping for good news too. Good-luck to all those waiting for the Marines!

Any of you out there still waiting to hear back from the first selection board for the marine option scholarship? My recruiter said the results had to be at NSTC today and that over the next several weeks we should start seeing status changes...Good-luck to all those like me who are waiting!

I've been checking my status at least once a day -- often 2 or 3 and it still hasn't changed for me -- at least as of several hours ago. Here's hoping...

pilot2b, what state are you in? I'm in NC. I've been accepted to The Citadel and hoping to get the scholarship there. Where are you hoping to apply yours if you are awarded one? My brother is in his knob (1st) year there on a Marine ROTC scholarship. He found out so much earlier last year. Hope that's not a bad sign for me. The defense cuts are probably going to affect the number of scholarships this year. Good-luck to you!

Hey Pilot2b, there's a slight chance that results from the first board may start coming out by the end of the week. At least that's what they're telling me up at Quantico, although the guy I spoke with couldn't guarantee this. At least we know it will be soon. Good-luck man!

Austinl: I'm from Oregon.

The XO for my district said there were 16 M.O. NROTC scholarships for the west coast (which covers something like 9 states) for the early board. I don't know what it is for you over there near NC.

The good news is he said there are supposed to be another 44 or 45 scholarships available on the west coast for the late board.

My schools were in this order: Texas A&M, Oregon State University, Auburn University, University of Colorado, University of North Carolina. What schools did you put down?

NROTC/Marine Option

I put down The Citadel (#1) VMI (#2) then UNC Chapel Hill, NC State and Appalachian as my last choice. I was checking on the status page and there was a header at the top saying the application page would be down from Friday the 16th- Sunday the 18th. Wonder if that means anything? Maybe they'll be starting to post results then...the wait is killing me!:unhappy:

You sound like a fine North Carolina lad (or lass). Since you only show 4 schools with NROTC in your post I'm wondering if they limited the schools to 4 this year? If not, did you consider University of South Carolina in Columbia? Although its not an SMC, which seems to be your preference, they have a great unit there. There are some financial benefits available to doing NROTC as a college programmer at South Carolina. Send me a PM if you want more details just in case plans A - Z don't come through.

I have no doubt App, at least, will accept you and I'm confident others in state schools will as well (if the scholarship is a key factor in attending The Citadel). :thumb:

I'm not austinl, but I can tell you that they still have you list 5 schools on your application (at least for Marine Option, which I applied for).

Thank you Sir! I am in fact a lad, not a lassie:biggrin: I looked back at my application that I printed off after filling it out and I did list five schools. My fifth school was Virginia Tech. My first choice is The Citadel where I've already been accepted. I can use my dad's GI bill if the scholarship doesn't come through but I'm really hoping for it. I'm also considering PLC as an option with the idea of trying to pick up a three year side-load if I don't get an offer for a four year. Last year my brother received the four year marine option scholarship to The Citadel on the first board. He found out so early but it might be because the then XO kind of leaked out the info before the rest of the nation. I hope we find out something soon. At least there's one more board if this one doesn't come through.

Hang tough while waiting. I know its hard. If you end up pursuing PLC you might want to consider doing ROTC as a college programmer your freshman year at least. If nothing else it should put you in a good position to do well that first PLC summer, and who knows, maybe you could land a 3 year ROTC scholarship in the process. Of course if you go to the Citadel without the scholarship I'm not sure that would matter so much. Good luck to you LADDIE! :thumb:

Got the call yesterday from my XO that I wasn't selected on the first board. Of the 14 applicants whose packets were submitted, only two lucky winners were selected. Pilot2b, I hope you got better news. Not the Christmas present I was hoping for but I'm hoping for better news on the second go 'round. Good-luck man and hoping for good news for you!

austinl: Did your application page change to show that you were bumped to the next board? And good luck with the next board!

Unless things have changed this yr, it will not change to show you are bumped. It will remain as it was before just like the SA's will not change for their candidates until an appointment has been awarded.

Too bad austinl. Hopefully you'll do better on the second board. I haven't gotten a call yet, and my status online hasn't changed yet, so I'm still hoping...

Jwert93, no my status stayed the same. I actually called NSTC up in Quantico yesterday to find out if they had any results and they told me the results were given to our XO's and that if I called he might be able to tell me something. So, I did and found out that I didn't get the scholarship. He said my status will remain the same until it is either closed out or I get an offer on the next board.

Pilot2b, keeping my fingers crossed for you! It's very competitive this year especially with the cutbacks but at least there is the option to pursue PLC if the scholarship doesn't work out. Best of luck!

...Just found out today that for some reason my app wasn't really even looked at for the early board even though I had my stuff in on time...The guy I talked to didn't know why it wasn't reviewed either...oh well haha still have the shot at the normal board

^^^ they don't always get thru everything in the stack.
