So I've been considering my career options in the military, for the most part I've been saying I want to be a fighter pilot, but I've also been giving a lot of thought to special forces. I've looked at SEALs, STOCRO, Ranger, and Green Beret, and the one that I keep going back to is Green Beret. So I would obviously have to cross commision to go to Green Beret training. I would like to know more about a) if I could even go SF from a cross-commisioning, and b) the cross commissioning process. My main concern right now is what I would do between commisioning and when I become an O-2, from what I've read, that's one of the requirements to become an 18A.

Also, is it possible to do ranger school while at USAFA, I've talk to some people and they say that ranger school is a good thing to have before going to SFAS.

Cross commissioning can be done, but it is not common.

Special operations and fighter pilot slots are both cool jobs, but you might want to focus on one or the other. It's kind of like saying, "I'd like to be a race car driver, but I also want to be a SWAT team member."

From what I understand, if you wish to commission in, say, the Army after attending the Air Force Academy, someone at Westpoint must want to commission in the Air Force. The services want to keep the same number of officers, so there has to be a one-for-one swap.

I'd heard of the one-for-one swap rumor as well, but it's actually not true. We had a career day a while back and I went to the Army careers meeting. One of the AOCs who helps with cross commissioning told us that the Army will determine each year how many cadets it would like to accept for cross-commissioning. That number, however, has nothing to do with how many are doing the same from West Point, and can fluctuate each year.

I just posted a thread similar to this one!! I am currently a Falcon Foundation scholar at Marion Military Institute in Alabama as my prep school. Being a Falcon Scholar, I would most likely be going to Air Force Academy next year, but I am actually pushing West Point because I have the SAME desire as you! I am pilot qualified and everything, but, being at an Army-oriented school has made me want to commission as an Army officer. I want to Army Rangers if I can get to West Point.
But, if I don't get into West Point, and I go to Air Force Academy, I am going to try to do STO/CRO if I cannot cross commission.
Please keep me updated with any information you find out about your cross commissioning desire.:thumb::thumb:
