I heard a rumor that the Admissions board isn't meeting until the second week of January. Does anyone know anything about this? If so, I guess that means I can take a break from running to the mailbox every time the mailman comes by

True - but sort of.
Yes - the Admissions Committee won't be physically meeting again until Jan 10 but in a very few number of cases , they will be voting electronically on offers to candidates with LOAs, Primary noms and clear MOC vacancy winners.

But if my Congressman submitted an unranked slate of 10, I'm assuming I will be waiting? They don't REALLY need a Christmas break, right?

Haha - yeah - tell that to them.

Unless you have a LOA, I think you can take a break from stalking the mailman and enjoy your Christmas break.

In most cases, with an unranked slate, the vacancy winner can't be determined until all the nominees have completed their files. Hopefully, they have (as I'm sure all you good forum members have!), but the deadline for file completion is the end of February. Some vacancy winners may not be determined until then.
If you have a LOA, however, they can go ahead and offer you the appointment without the rest on the slate having completed their files.

No couldn't get an LOA, counselors at my school don't publish transcripts until September 21 at the earliest because there are no deadlines for regular colleges until then........ yeah.
My app has been done since early October (minus the nom), so I'm good. As for my fellow candidates, however... maybe the mailman will have a longer break than just until the 2nd week of January. Thanks for clarifying everything
!
