So I am a freshman in college right now and I was awarded a 3.5 year scholarship but I am medically disqualified. The letter said:

US ARMY CSB
Myopia- refractive error greater than -8.00 diopters (spherical equivalent)

My question is, does anybody have experience with this with the ROTC scholarship? What are the chances of me getting the medical waiver? I know I don't have the best vision but I saw three optometrists and they told me that my eyes are correctable to 20/20. Also, I don't find myself being restricted in any physical activities due to my eyesight. I've been participating in night and day land navigation with no problem and I've been functioning and excelling even with the eyesight that I have.

Is there anything I can be doing right now in order to increase the chances of getting my medical waiver?

Thank you

I am in the same boat as you, and I'm afraid to say...there's not a whole lot you can do. Quick summary: Awarded a 4 year AROTC to Norwich in the January board last year, went to God knows how many optometrists and specialists to try and get clearance, hasn't panned out.

My advice: Try to get yourself placed into the appeals process, and get a second opinion from a military doc, if you can. Speak with your battalion CO or your closest superior, see if they can't help.

Like you, I've been excelling at Norwich, despite the 'medical disqualification' and the fact that the Army approves several types of corrective surgery. I'll let you know if I can get the ruling rescinded.

What do you mean by appeals process? I'm not entirely sure how everything works.
So you haven't received a response either?
