The Angel

Once upon a time there was a child ready to be born.

The child asked God, “They tell me you are sending me to Earth. How am I going to be able to live there being so small and helpless”?

God answered, “I have chosen an angel who will be waiting for you and will take care of you.”

“But here in Heaven all I ever do is sing and smile and laugh. That’s enough for me to be happy.”

“Your angel will sing for you and will smile for you every day, and you will feel your angel’s love and be happy.”

“How am I going to be able to understand when people talk to me if I don’t know the language that people speak?”

“Your angel will speak to you using the sweetest, most beautiful words you will ever hear, and with much patience and care, your angel will teach you to speak.”

“And what am I going to do when I want to talk to You?”

“Your angel will place your hands together and will teach you how to pray.”

“I’ve heard that on Earth there are bad people. Who will protect me?”

“Your angel will defend you even if it means risking its own life.”

“But I will be sad because I will not see You anymore.”

“Your angel will talk to you about Me and teach you the way for you to come back to Me, even though I will always be beside you.”

Silence fell across heaven and urgent voices from Earth began to be heard. As a gentle mist settled gently around it, the child asked quietly, “God, since I have to leave You now, would You please tell me my angel’s name?”

The Voice whispered from beyond the mist…

“Yes, my child…

You will call your angel Mommy.”

Happy Mother's Day, everyone, even if I am a day late!

Thank you Zaphod. It touched my heart and made me cry (yes, I'll admit that). Your mother must be very proud to have a son like you!

Don't feel bad. I can't read it without getting misty-eyed myself (or worse) every time I read it, and I've had this thing on my computer for almost a decade.

Your mother must be very proud to have a son like you!

I hope so. She passed away in 1997. I read the item above from time to time just to remember her. She was very proud of me in life (She cried like a baby when my class tossed their covers at graduation. My dad caught it on video, with HIM bawling, too.) I'd like to think she's proud of me now, although I'll admit that my life since she passed on has been less than stellar.

My mom was something else. I could write a book on her but people would think I was grossly exagerating, which I wouldn't be.

She may have been proud of me as a son, but I was infinitely lucky and blessed to have had her as a mother. Aside from having been born here in America, and even greater than having my own children, having been HER son is the greatest blessing I have ever received.

I miss here terribly. :frown:

Sweet sentiments Z. Mothers think the same way about their children. I was sittin' around in my jammies saturday morning when the boy calls. I said, "Wow, how come you're up so early?" He answers, "Awww, you know Mamma.... inspections & such". Then he said, "Sure is cold & rainy in NY". Yep. I'd seen the weather. Pretty yucky. Then he asked, "What would ya do if there was a Midshipman at your door?" Dead silence on my end...........
He opens the front door & while we're still on our phones, standing there looking at each other, he said ever so softly, "Happy Mothers' Day Mamma!" What a freaking watering pot I am. I leaked gallons all over the floor. Then I hit him. Hard. He only had a day & 1/2 but Wow, it was good stuff.

The things kids do to Moms make all those kool-aid stains, carpool lines, broken furniture, self haircuts the day before school picture day, stench in general coming from under the bed, mud pies on the trunk of the new car, "Mom, I didn't mean to hit you with the water balloon", the tree frog in the toilet incidents, car sick puke in the back seat, "Can you bake 100 cupcakes for tonight's bake sale? Its in an hour.", "LOOK! I found a puppy! Ooops, it peed on your bed.", the chemistry set blow up that took out 1/2 the kitchen counter with real live flames, and the thousands of I didn't do it's almost seem worthwhile! The tree frog thing almost gave me a heart attack though. I'm still not over that one as it was the most recent.

It shouldn't be just Mothers' Day. We should get a whole week. Where are you Dads when this stuff is going on?

Behind the scenes with the chemistry set!

"You see, Junior.... If you mix a bit of chemical A with a bit of B, and we add some of your Mom's oven cleaner...."
