Does it help to let USMA know of other LOA's?

Coming into the silly season our DS has received his AFROTC scholarship and a pending LOA for USMMA. I understand we need to make the MOC's aware of his status but does it help his application with USMA/NAVY/USAFA to know that he's been vetted by these other entities? The online apps are finished and he's triple Q in all of them. We attended the USMA alumni dinner for our area so we know he's in the running but didn't receive an LOA. For that matter he's received other good scholarships to Baylor and OU...does any of this information help giving a bump to his whole person score?

Any advice is appreciated.

Thanks.

My personal opinion is for other things such as nomination and liasion officer interivew it helps, but an actual evaluation the admissions committee no.

Why do some kids get accepted to Navy SLS and get rejected by West Point SLS or other way around

I worked with a kid last year that received an appointment in October. He finall rejected the offer from West Point when he got an appointment from Navy. Didn't make sense to me as this kid was good enough West Point's vie to offer an appointment in October, but Navy waited until April.

It would depend on the class competition I'm assuming. Maybe the USMA had a year with a less competitive applicant pool while the USNA had a year with a more competitive applicant pool.

SLS

Thanks for the advice.

I hear you on the SLS...the science is as clear as mud. I think they have quota's and some politics to cater to. Our DS applied waaaayyy early (first day apps opened) for AF SLS and wanted that one baaaad. Then crickets...nadda.

Applied for Navy SLS and heard back a week later. Didn't know about West Point SLS until late, was wait listed and got in a week after our wait list letter.

Still crickets on AF SLS until I posted some questions here on this forum...hmmm...mysteriously a nice ALO replied and 1 day later our local ALO called and he was rejected. So our app I think sat on someones computer for a while and we were rejected b/c of our location/timing. It wasn't grades, for sure. Anyway...clear as mud.

Yeah, I think they have to meet a lot of geographical criteria in their selections for SLS, just like they do for appointments.

Military families at a disadvantage?

One young friend whose father is retired CG was told he was a very long shot for USCGA summer session - although not for eventual admission - because the program's purpose is outreach, and to give potential applicants an idea of what they may be getting into. Since his father was career CG, he was assumed to know enough that he didn't need the program as much as some others might.

The criteria are basically the same for all the Service Academies. However, the Admissions people are human beings who might not make the exact same decision as another academy makes. I have seen cases (when I was on the West Point Admissions Committee) where one West Point admissions officer thought a candidate was OK for admissions and another one disagreed. This happens with many candidates who are "on the edge" - that is they are not a CLEAR go or no-go. This is in the normal range of people seeing the same facts and coming to a different conclusion.
