I just recieved word that I have been appointed to USNA class of 2016, which is my first choice. I was planning on submitting my USAFA app this week, should I still turn it in or inform USAFA that I have received an appointment from USNA?

Do you want to attend USAFA?

If you want to attend USAFA, keep going forward, up until you get a TWE from Air Force, before you accept USNA. Don't settle for something you don't necessarily want just because it's offered to you.

If you want to attend USNA, you've reached your goal. If USNA is your one and only first choice and you fully intend to accept the appointment, then the polite thing to do is to notify USAFA admissions so they can close your file and stop spending time and resources on you.

You have plenty of time before May 1. Choose carefully.

The air force has planes but the navy has more planes and submarines.

So you want to fly?

What is it you want to do, something you know you'll enjoy doing for awhile?

Hi. Congrats on your appointment!!!!How did you manage it so quick? I think i just read that you want to go to USNA and that you were 2Q, but missing scholastically, and u have a MOC nom.
Would you mind sharing with the hopefuls how you turned your 2Q to 3Q and what where those scholastic credentials?
Thanks
And again
CONGRATS!

Flying was what got me to look into the SA's, USAFA was what i dreamed about in middle school, then the reality of 200/20 near sighted vision hit me. Since then I've developed a thing for subs and nuclear energy. It's nice to have more option on the table aft I found out that PRK surgerey is a possibility at the SA's.

Ulitimately I want to have a career of serving the Citizens of the United States of America (and government by extension) using any of the following: math/physics/foreign language skills/strategy/logistics

Everything was submitted as of 09 December with my CFA, did the medical in july and have been Q'd since August. My reccomendations were done in May,BGO interview at the end of september. I go to the local college as a high school student on my own/parents dime. I could've been scholastically Q'd sooner but there was a mix-up in the mail with my mid term grades from the college. KEEP CLOSE CONTACT WITH THE REGIONAL OFFICE! I was able to get it straightened out quickly. I actually new I was 3Q before my BGO because I was keeping such close contact with admissions!

Here's some tips for the interview,
BE ON TIME!!!!

DRESS WELL!!!

other than the obvious do practice interviews before hand. I had two of my mentors interview me a couple times and it really helped. Figeting can be controlled it just takes practice! Think of bullet points before hand that can be used whenever there is oppurtunity.Don't forget to sell yourself, answer the question thouroughly, but don't get to long winded.Do your homework I am 130 pounds on a good day and am 5 ft 8 in tall. I looked into Victor "Brute" Krulak and Admiral Rickover before the interview so I could be prepared of the question "how is a tiny guy like you going to survive in USNA?" Be pre-emptive it is much better to have an answer for something that is never asked than to be dumbstruck by a question. In the waiting room try to be cool and collected,if you make someone else think your less nervous or a better candidate than they are it can't hurt your chances.

Most importantly BE YOURSELF and show personality. In my interview I was asked "why do you want to go into submarines, it's a tough life." I replied, "Sir, it is better to be in a ship designed to sink and then surface rather than just sink." Everybody on the panel laughed.

There's something called PRK that can solve your visual acuity problems. Do NOT simply give up on flying just because of some myopia.

I realized that now after sifting through a lot of myth/misinformation about vision and flying. However, without those circumstances I would've never looked into subs and I have to say that is my first choice, currently; we'll see if it changes in 4 years. I plan to never be stuck at AGL 0 for too long

Your answer is in your question.

I looks like you are from Wisconsin. My son is from Wisconsin and has a nom to USNA. Who nominated you?

Thanks.

Thank you for the reply and congratulations on your appointment! My son is from a different district so hopefully the spot for the MOC who nominated him is still open.
