I am so ecstatic right now! I just got a call from North Carolina's Senator Kay Hagan's office saying I had made it on to her nomination slate for the US Naval Academy. That means I am one step closer to achieving my life long dream of attending the Naval Academy. Just keeping my fingers crossed that my triple qualification is enough to beat the other nine on the slate wcs wise so I can get that wonderful BFE.

Congrats!
As for me, I just received my congressional nomination from Ed Royce (CA) for Air Force Academy! :shake:

Has anyone else heard from NC MOC's?

NCmom,

It would appear that Kagan's slate is out. I would not expect to hear your child is on their slate.

I recall Burr is the late one. However, Burr until at least last yr., does interviews and Kagan does not.

He does them in January, again up to last yr it was the early part of Jan. no later than the 15th. He mails to the candidate a letter stating time and place. If I recall it is held in Winston-Salem. I just recall it was a haul.

I am not sure what district you are for congressional because North central NC can vary a lot.

I would suggest re-posting the Congressional district.

NC MOC's do not talk aka share the wealth. You only need 1 nom.

DS interviewed with Hagan's office back in mid-November. We have not heard from Burr. He did receive an email from Miller stating he was nominating him for USAFA. We don't have an official confirmation yet.

My suggestion to you would be have your DS contact Hagan and Burr's office to see if there is a clerical error.

I would be prepared to say he did not receive either nom., since Burr does interview in Jan., and by now he would have had sent the letter of time and date. If he has not received this notification most likely it would mean he was not selected for an interview. Again the only way to know for sure is contact the office and ask if the selection list has been determined/released.

If Miller's office said he has the MOC nom., I would believe it.

Again you only need one nom.

I am sorry I have not been able to reply because I have been busy with the holidays but Pima is right Burr has already sent out the letters to the few people he wants to interview and he does wait to do interviews until later in janurary and so does my congresswoman who is Virginia Foxx and I just got a letter from her saying she wanted to interview me on Janurary 21. I received a letter from Burr probably a few days after I originally posted this thread and it said he was sorry to inform me I did not receive an interview. Hagan does do interviews actually she interviews every single candidate that applies for her nomination but she did not reply in the way of letter this year but by calling over the phone so if your DS did not get a call I would say he probably did not get it but I would say it is worth calling and asking her office.

I am sorry I have not responded earlier, I did not read this thread until now. I have already received a nomination to USAFA from Rep. Renee Ellmers. I was also notified in an email on Dec. 10 that I had been chosen for an interview with Sen. Burr on Sat. Jan. 7. I wish the best of luck to your son.

Highflyer good luck on your interview.

I hope things haven't changed in the past yr or 2, but traditionally Burr interviews only to make sure the candidate on paper matches up in person.

When DS went through it Burr had 2 slates, I would think he may have 2 again this yr, since DS is graduating. You won't know until later.

At the interview he had 22 candidates for 20 noms, so the chances are good.

Burr, unless he has changed does not do principal, it is unranked submitted alphabetically.

The letter of the nom showed up at the door within days. I think it was by Wed/Thurs. Like I said it is just a verification process.

The board was a committee and Burr was not there. It is a cross mixture of leaders in the community and military people.

They all had the chance to pepper him with varying questions from Academics to books to ECs.

Keep us updated.

PS. He wore khakis, a button down oxford and loafers, and got the nom.

Got the word last night that DS has an interview on Jan 7th with Burr's office. This was good news indeed!

Best of luck to you as well Highflyer17. DS has an interview with Burr tomorrow as well. Like you he already has one nom from our Rep. but we are excited about the interview tomorrow!

Wow, that was short notice from Burr, congrats to your DS.

Good luck to you both, and let's hope come next week you will have 1 more nom slate to compete on for the AFA.

Pima thank you for your advice, and ncmom good luck to your son perhaps we will both recieve yet another nomination.

So how did it go?

Were there a ton for the AFA, or were there a small number?

Hi Pima,

I counted 25 on the list for interviews for AFA.

The interviews were very quick. DS was 30 minutes early for his interview. He was done and back in the car on the way home before his interview time arrived. He felt that the interview went well. Now all we can do is wait. They told him he should hear something this week.

Not saying that it would be true, but since DS interviewed on 08 for 12, and MOC's can have up to 5 charges at anytime, and in 08 he had 2 slates, he may have 2 again this yr. Class of 12 leaving opens for 2, but that is only if the 2 in 08 are graduating, if they left he may have only 1.

As I stated it was quick for our DS, basically within a week, and it was a letter. I just pulled out the letter and saw that it was written on Monday after the interview.

Good luck.

We're in NC13

I asked about how many slots they have at my interview and this year they said they have 2 slots and are more than likely going to use both

That makes sense of why they had @25 people there. If you think about it the odds are strong because it is an 80% chance you will receive a nom.

Price Nomination/Appointment Received!

DS received his LOA the first week of September. Finally received the nomination from Congressman Price (NC04) last week, expecting to still get one from Senator Burr. Second nomination doesn't matter though. He only needed one. DS portal shows the appointment offer today. Now I just have to reconcile my feelings. The last year has been all about helping DS achieve his dream. I figured if he was offered an appointment then I would worry about my feelings. So here they come... I am so proud of his hard work and accomplishments to date. Yet, I can't help but feel a little apprehensive and frightened. I am assuming this is a common set of emotions.
