Here is an email I received from a person who got my email address through the service academy forum. I am not happy about this, since my email appears to be have given out without permission.Has this happened to anyone else? Has anyone else received this email (I don't intend on answering). I don't remember seeing any fine print when joining the forum allowing my address to be shared.
This is the message:
Hello.
My name is Emily Dooley and I am a reporter at Newsday in New York. I'm working on a story about the Merchant Marine Academy and have been trying to track down some parents, students, former students, etc.
My story is about the academy itself and some of the recent events going on there, such as the transfer of the TV Kings Pointer, closure of GMATS and the loss of the superintendant. The story is also about the school itself, the importance of the program, etc.
Would you mind talking with me?
I can be reached directly at [phone number] or at Thanks, Emily
