Fully Qualified + Principal Nomination?

I recently asked my ALO if I am fully qualified and he replied that it (I'm not sure what) shows that I am a fully qualified applicant. Earlier this month, I received a principal nomination from my MOC. Does this mean I will receive an appointment or does being both fully qualified and a principal nominee just increase my chances of receiving an appointment?

By Federal Law, a qualified candidate/applicant with a principal nomination MUST be offered an appointment.

Congratulations.

ctuma2,

I also asked my ALO if I was fully qualified and he said that he was not privy to that information. In addition, he said that everything I submitted "looks good" (his quotes, not mine) and that he'll see me soon.

I wonder if there's a way for me to find out if I'm qualified or not...

It probably means the board hasn't reviewed your application yet, but your ALO thinks you have a good looking application. When I asked my ALO about my status he told me that he though my application was "top notch." But, he said that my application has yet to be reviewed for official qualification.

The difference here, is that the OP has a Principal Nomination. As luigi correctly mentioned, if the individual is 100% qualified, which usually you know if you are or not. (You passed your DODMRB, you have above minimum GPA/SAT/ACT, which you probably do in order to get a principal nomination, and you are physically qualified with your CFA). Then you get the appointment by law. If you don't have a principal nomination, which most nominations aren't, then it's really difficult to say whether you'll get an appointment or not. I, Flieger, and others have all seen applications that we would almost bet our paycheck on was going to get an appointment.... And yet, they didn't. Go figure. But a Principal Nomination is a whole different story. You should know if you are qualified. Did you bomb the CFA? Did you get a notice from DODMRB saying you weren't qualified? Do you have below a 25ACT, low GPA, etc...? You should know if you're qualified or not.

You are very right. I know I am triple qualified for USNA but I'm scared that there might be something that would prevent me from receiving an appointment to USAFA like an SAT score that is just under what they would consider qualified or a CFA score that was not good enough. This led me to ask my ALO and his information gave me some relief though I still won't be completely calm until I (hopefully) receive an appointment.

Hi CTUMA2, it is possible to check the SAT requirements and compare your CFA scores to the mean and get a feel for your status. There is language in the candidate package to help you with that. But you mentioned CFA as a concern and there are a couple of senarios that may come into play here, one of which is that the admissions folks may ask that you take another one to improve the score, but it is up to them to ask. If your CFA is any concern at all, try to work on that as hard as you can, PT at 7258 feet is challenging. Good luck.

I concur with falcon family, if there is anything that might concern the AFA it would be your CFA, and they will re-open the portal. Practice, practice, practice. Take it, and from now until July when you report work out because that Alt. will kill you. This is why the CFA score matters so much to them.

AFA is very clear on their website, or use to be regarding the mins to be "deemed competitive" for the SAT/ACT. 490 or 24 CR/V. The CFA they never publish the mins. Fail one part and you fail the entire CFA.

I am sure you have done fine already and you just didn't realize that the boards shut down when the cadets leave for Winter Break, and are only coming back up now. Also, just because you got the principal on X day, does not mean your MOC informed the AFA immediately and that it was processed by them. There is a lag time, unfortunately for you it appears that it happened during the winter break.
