I am very much committed to going to West Point, just waiting on acceptance or denial I guess. I am around the local recruiting office alot and I really love the military. I am most likely going to take the oath for Army Reserves while going to college if WP does not work out. Would oathing now and being Active Reserve help me any now? I believe it would for sure on next year applications. Any ideas would be appreciated.

Why not go AROTC? I think there is still time to submit an application if you haven't already. Don't know if it helps in reapplying or not.

Yes, if you are an active NG or Army Reserves soldier, you qualify for nomination reserved for RC soldiers. Getting the nominatio is very simple - your commander has to nominate you. Typically, RC quota is never filled.

Some considerations are

- Have to go to your basic and advance invidual training. Not sure what your recruiter is telling you, but more than like you will have to take a semester off.

- are you okay being a member of the Army Reserves if you don't get into West Point. A less chance now days, but you could still get mobilized.

This is exactly what I did. I was a member of the USAR and applied to WP and was appointed based on that. It's definitely easier to get in especially if you are already a competitive candidate and triple-qualified. Let me know if you have any questions about it

Be careful with this. As a Reservist, I have been hearing that the number of mobilizations have been rising for Reservists (not just for deployment, but to mobilize to a unit that helps improcess soldiers returning from war). In my unit alone, 3-4 different soldiers would be mobilized in between each monthly drill. Just make sure you are joining the Reserves to join the Reserves, not to get into West Point!

Woud oathing right now help you get in for the Class of 2016? No, it would be too late for the Commander's Endorsement.

I joined the Army Reserves, I spent a year in Afghanistan, I'm back now and got accepted to the Class of 2016. Don't join unless you want to be mobilized overseas. Join to serve your country, not get in West Point. It is a hard path to go.
