I took the ACT, and I've recently recieved my scores. For Reading I recieved a 26, for math a 19. I know my math is very low, but the only reason for it is because I didn't manage my time very well and when there was 1 minute left (The teachers tells us that there's 5 minutes left, well here she said "You have 5 minutes left, but that was 4 minutes ago, so do the math, sorry". I was very angry but I was left with 15 questions left, which I basically had to guess.

I don't have a problem with any of the others, just Math. What're some ways I can manage my time better? My friend suggested I bring a silent watch and restart for every test so that I would know how much time is left. Any other ways I could improve?

Thanks!

Take an ACT class.

Get a bunch of practice tests and keep running through them... Not fun but it may help.

As someone who has taken the ACT multiple times, I would also recommend doing as many practice tests on your own. That was actually the only way I improved. Taking a class can help also, however I think it depends on the person. For me, it did not improve my score, however my friend bumped his score from a 26 to a 30.

Good luck.

p.s. use a calculator, preferably one that can graph (may seem like common sense, but I have seen those that try to do it with just their fingers - and boy does that suck)

I did have a graphing calculator. Just need to keep track of time,

Thanks everyone!

In addition to an ACT class I would also try March to Success at www.march2success.com. It is a free on-line program sponsored by the Army. It has a lot of TIMED practice test you can complete on-line. It also gives explanations why a certain answer is the best answer if you miss one. My son used this program and went from a 25 to a 30 on the ACT Math section with out a class.

To get better at math, you have to do a *lot* of math. We paid $$ to a private instructor for DS on the SAT and focused just on math presented in the test. He had to do a lot of math every day and practice tests frequently. You have to really work at it! How badly do you want this? Work pays off, excuses don't cut it.

pennak, I agree....DS put a lot of time into March to Success....several nights a week (four or five) for over six months to raise his Math score.

49. That is exactly what it takes. The kids sometimes do no get that the free ride is about to come to an end with college and the military
