My son, an MSI, found out today he has received a CULP slot! I'm so excited for him! He will be going to Malaysia in July.

Apparently everyone at his school who applied is going, which I found interesting.

Good luck to everyone still waiting to hear - I hope your cadre calls with the good news soon!

Doesn't surprise me about everyone getting a slot. They asked me as a MS IV if I wanted to go and I turned them down. I already have NSTP this summer and I don't want anything else after LDAC/CTLT last summer.

Congrats on the slot! I am sure we will be hearing from a few more soon.

Congrats, seems like Santa is everywhere on these boards today. Maybe it is the new banner the site put up so Santa could find his way!

Congratulations to your son, Malaysia sounds great.
Do you know which Brigade your son's battalion is in.

Our younger son has heard nothing as of yet.....and not for a lack of checking his account, I think he's wearing the keys out.

The PMS allowed only 2 cadets from his battalion to apply, actually anyone could apply, he specifically asked only 2 to apply. Son was a little more optomistic after reading your post, maybe he'll get an early Cristmas present.

Godd luck to those still waiting

My son's school is in the 7th Bde. At his school, all of the MS IIs applied, but my son was the only MSI.
He is the only one there who got Malaysia. He will be a member of a Cadet English Language Training Team. Some others got Thailand, Togo, Ukraine, Congo. Fun times ahead for these kids.
I hope your wait is short and you get good news!

Congrats The OC Josh! Do you know what type of CULP trip you'll be on?

How are the notifications coming thru? Are you getting a call? email?

Thanks...daughter is waiting to hear and would obviously be excited to get good news :thumb::thumb:

My son received a text from one of his cadre members, then a phone call from the Bn Cdr. There is most likely something in his AKO as well, but he's out of town so I can't ask him.

I hate to be the black cloud.

Do not get too excited yet if your DS/DD received a CULP slot to a nation that is politically, economically, or in some other way unstable. These assignments can be canceled or modified based on current events.

Do not invest in the CULP assignment until March or April. If the assignment is to Egypt you may want to hold off on purchasing the guidebooks and the language CDs. If the assignment is to Nepal you may want to hold off on purchasing the guidebooks, the language CDs, and clothes for the Himalayas. These things will be of no use to you if the assignment is changed to Spain or Costa Rica.

If the assignment is to Spain or some other stable country, go ahead and purchase these items and put them under the tree.

Great advice as always. Last year one of the cadets at school had his assignment changed due to the earthquake in Japan. Even the PMS has had his place changed for this year!

My son was told yesterday that they would all be notified in the New Year who got a slot and where they are going. As he was told, good thing come to those who wait!

My son just got his Culp assignment, he is going to Tunisia!

Son finally got the news today that he was selected for CULP.

He will be going to Slovakia. Needless to say he was very excited.

Congratulations to all those selected.

DS just got notified of his CULP assignment to Tanzania. He is a MS1 at a large state university!

My S2, MS I, got in. He got the notification today.

His assignment: teaching English to Cambodian gov officials/military personnel.

He is a bit disappointed because he wanted to be part of the military to military program, but still pleased. He was also pleased that he will be sent to a country he has never been to (given that he has been to over 50 countries, it was not a given that this will be somewhere novel for him).

Actually, I think it might be interesting to engage the elite of a very interesting country.

(finished his first semester on Dean's List: so far, things are looking good - funny, his grades at this competitive university are better than his HS grades. I think it's his desire to place high on OML for branch selection that is propelling him).

Well.......My son's HR person had the CULP assignment a bit off.

Son just received official word from Cadet Command. Son will not be going to Slovakia.

Son's official destination is now Bosnia, Military to Military, he is very excited.

Congrats to all who got their CULP assignments!!!!!! This is wonderful news!!!

Am just curious.

Does anyone know how they decide who is selected and going where to do what?

Obviously, they are not letting loose a monkey to come and do a random drawing.....

I can tell you that this year the program tripled in slots which is one of the reasons that so many MSIs are able to go.
