Migraine Waiver

I was deemed medically disqualified by all of the academies because of Migraines/ Recurring Headaches, and USNA and USAFA would not grant me a waiver, but USMA requested a remedial, and then proceeded to give me a waiver for this disqualifier.

Therefore, my question is: how rare is it to get a waiver, especially for such a condition as this?

Thank You in advance

I got a waiver for migraines as well as asthma (AROTC). I had to return to my physician for a few tests but in the end it was approved by DoDMERB. the only caveat to my example is that this was back 2008 when scholarships/appointments were not as difficult.

I am applying to USAFA this year and they requested a remedial* for my migraines. They accepted it and qualified me without any hassle. I listed that I had a few migraines per year. How often do you have migraines or headaches?

*remedial for complete paperwork regarding checkups I've had for migraines from my DR.

Migrane Waiver

A few years ago my DS was an applicant to a service academy and an ROTC scholarship, and he was told by his service academy LO, they wanted him and get the waiver for him (another medical condition). He was also offered an appointment to another service academy and AROTC, after getting the waiver. He took neither. The way we understand it, if a SA wants you or ROTC program wants you, the SA or ROTC program will get the waiver. The rules may have changed or I could be wrong.

God Bless,

RGK

Thank you all for the insight, and Lefry, I also have them a couple times per year, and they have also been getting less and less severe. Maybe that played a factor.
I do worry that if I got an appointment, what would happen if I got a migraine during the academic year.

Same here. I know I could manage the headache, but there's about a thirty minute time period where I get spots in front of my eyes and I can barely see anything I'm directly staring at. Is that a symptom for you as well?

Lefry, you definitely hit that nail right on the head for me too, same symptons, it just varies how much my head hurts, and how much nausea I may get

I don't get migraines, but my mom does, and often. They are bad migraines. She went to West Point, and I am fairly sure she went to class and suffered through it. If it gets bad enough, and it is only a few times a year, you could end up on bed rest for a little, just as if you were sick otherwise. She also gets migraines more than a couple times a year, it's closer to a couple times a month.

Just trying to help.

What is the most efficacious treatment for migraine headaches? Migraine headaches is the biggest source of chronic pain. There is however a very thin line of distinction between Cervicogenic, Migraine and Tension headaches. I reckon drugs are the first line of defence however do other forms of treatment like physiotherapy help at all .

I don't know myself. When I have migraines, I just let them pass.

This is what I do, and I swear to you it works if it is a tension headache.

Take a towel dampen it in a water and cider vinegar 50/50 mix. Heat it for about a minute. Place the hot towel on your forehead and leave it there until it is cool. I thought this was crazy when someone told me to do this, but within minutes it was gone.
