I've gone on numerous websites but can't find very much information on the PFT testing scores.

What is the maximum score you can get? (On the individual tests and as a total)

What is a "good/great" score to get? Etc.

Also, I found that in the score they measure your abdominal circumference, is this only for the PFT testing when you're in college?

Thanks,

PFT and Abdominal Measurement

My daughter did not have an abdominal measurement as part of her PFT or the DoDMerb exam. I assume this will happen when she reports to her unit this Fall. (She did receive a scholarship during the first board.)

Also, she did not prepare as much as she should have for the PFT so although above the minimum requirements she did not "knock it out of the park." She won't make that mistake again.

At DSs AFROTC detachment they do measure as part of the PFT. You can max everything else, but if your waist is too large you will get dinged points.

One thing to realize is that many freshman cadets do not have the proper form, so if she is practicing make sure it is exact otherwise, she is wasting not only her energy, but time to for something they will not count.

This is interesting. My son was measured by DoDMerb and he was measured by his AFROTC interviewer. She had a required form to fill out as part of the interview process and height and abdominal circumference were blanks she had to fill in. There was no measurement associated with the PFT.

Abdominal Measurement

I'm not sure why the different experience. I do know I'd have been upset if the officer that interviewed my daughter (male) tried to measure her waist - that's just a bit creepy to me. I did measure her waist myself to make sure she is within range and we had the conversation about not putting on the "freshman 15" (15 pounds that is).

They will measure, and if there is an issue, they may decide to tape if it is a weight issue.

Our DS has been taped every semester for the past 4 yrs. He is too thin, for SFT they stated if you lose more than 5 lbs you are in jeopardy for not meeting stds., he lost 3 lbs at SFT and worried everyday about hitting the bottom marker.

ArielsMom,

You have to get use to it re: creepy. The AF is about 25% women to 75% men, and many of her docs will be giving her physicals will be men. It is done with a woman present so there is nothing creepy about it. It is a 2 sec. action.

She will be entering a male dominated world, that is just the fact.

I think there may be confusion between the PFT and the PFA. The PFA is what you take every semester once you're in AFROTC.

The PFT (correct me if Im wrong - my experience was back in '07/'08) is what you take when you're applying for an AFROTC scholarship while still in high school.

The tests may be conducted differently from each other. The stats listed on the VT Air Force website were for the PFA.

I'm not sure if its an AFROTC regulation, but at our detachment the female cadre member performs the waist measurement for all female cadets. I've never heard of anyone experiencing "creepy" encounters.

Nick, very aware of this but the PFA and PFT are to be conducted the same way and so far as scoring this PFA score chart is the only thing I have ever found.
Of course the PFT is usually administered by a coach that is more likely to bend the rules on form and such which probably leads to misleading high scores.

Understand completely. I was just trying to clarify for folks that there is a difference between the tests administered for scholarship applicants and those in ROTC/on AD. The OP had a question regarding the ab measurement. There was no ab measurement for the scholarship applicants...at least not when I applied 4 years ago. But there has always been one for cadets in ROTC.

Does anybody have the chart for the scores for the PFT?

I always see people saying they got a 92 or something but am unsure how to convert it..

Earlier in this thread you will find a link to a chart for PFA scores. I think that is as close as you will find.

Our DS who is a senior in high school applied for AFROTC and had to take the PFA... http://afrotc.com/scholarships/application/required-forms/
... which tested push ups, crunches and 1.5 mile run.

I guess theyve changed the name? But my point is that they are still two different tests...unless they also added the ab measurement, minimum scores, and cadre members to look over your shoulder as you perform it

They have Nick.

It is now the PFA. The PFT is the ROTC. Probably because SA's take CFA's, so they have kept the SA and ROTC both ending in an A.

Either way it really doesn't matter, because it is about the process which will be the same. The CFA cannot be used for the PFA. They both have different tests...i.e. CFA has Bball throw, PFA does not.

It is an AF regulation, not only an AFROTC regulation..the difference is not all dets have ADAF females in the unit, but they will always pull in a woman to be there, which may mean they tape female cadets all on the same time, using them to prove nothing creepy happens.

As an AF wife who only saw flight docs, 90% are male, for 20 yrs., I never had an examination with a door closed without a female military member in the room with me. They have placed a system within the AF to make her as comfortable during this as possible. I was never creeped out.

As far as "good/great scores", IMO a 95-97 is good and a 97+ is great. To be competitve for in-college scholarships they should be above a 97. I asked my instructor if there was anything in my file I could improve upon and he told me that my PFT score was a little low my first semester even though I got a 96.4

Just as an FYI....DS rec'd an in-college type 2 a few days ago. He is a freshman. His PFT score 1st semester was 98.
