DD received a call from our MOC informing her that she has an appointment. This was after she received an LOA and a nomination. Went to check her application this morning and her application status has changed from "Letter of Assurance" to "Complete". Seems like a step backward...anybody else have a change of application status today?

Same thing here but haven't gotten call yet. Was LOA and nomination now says complete. Sent email to admissions and coach to see what happened

That happened last year as well. The MOC get a few days to contact the Appointees before their status changes to "Appointment Offered".

Congrats to DD. :thumb:

Youre just fine. I remember the day I saw that as well. It scared me half to death. I still have the screenshots on my phone. Give it a week or so. You should get the offer of appointment package the same day the status changes; if they plan that way. Congrats to your DD, I'll be happy to see her and her classmates in a few months. Start getting in shape and enjoying time together.

Just got comfirmation from admissions that the above is the case. I just don't remember seeing that with DS 2014.

It can take a while! We still haven't seen his MOC nom updated, but what counts is that it's there! Folks shouldn't worry too much about their status page updates, what's important is what's in the system at Admissions IMO,

Just curious about the number LOAs and those who are individual receiving appoinments. The following is posted on the AFA Application Status for my DD.

"IMPORTANT NOTE – Due to recent Secretary of the Air Force mandates, the number of appointments for the Class of 2016 will be the smallest in recent history. As a result, respective candidate appointment information will not be provided until the later part of March and final notifications will not be completed until the first week of April. Admissions appreciates your understanding and patience."

I am curious about all the individuals who are receiving thier appointments. Are all of those folks Recruited Athletes? My DD is, in the words of her admissions counselor for both the USNA and AFA, a "highly competitive candidate". She required a waiver for a shoulder surgery for an injury from sports and received it before it was even completed. She already has NROTC at first choice. Just curious if it is true only the RAs are getting the appointments now.

There have been very few LOA's or appointments this year to USAFA compared to this same time in previous years. And yes, the only people on this Forum to receive appointments at this point are recruited athletes. The Academy must decrease the size of the cadet wing and therefore the size of the 2016 class. To get the best class possible under the circumstances, Admissions is waiting until March to send out appointments (as stated on the Application site) with the exception of RAs because the Academy is concerned with losing their top choice of athletes to other D1 schools. The only other exception I have heard of is for Falcon prep students who have received a LOA type letter saying that they will get an appointment if they continue doing what they are supposed during the rest of their year. The Falcon prep letter is different from the LOAs sent to RAs because recipients of regular LOAs will receive a 2016 class appointment once they have received a nomination and met any other requirements. A few of these folks have posted here. However, it appears that Falcons may get their appointments with everybody else in March/April even if they have completed everything and have a nomination.

So just hang on for a while. We have a while to go before the bulk of appointments come out. . .

Yes. The waiting game it is. At least right now DD has Plans B, C, and D already lined up. The good news for the parents pocketbook is that all of them involve full scholarships at the respective schools. She just wants option A of an Academy.:thumb:

What is the typical gender makeup of a freshman class? Does either gender tend to make through to graduation over the other? Just curious because there seems to be quite a few females posting for the class of 2016.

Also, we went to a USAFA basketball game the other night and was somewhat surprised to see that about half were products of the prep school. They looked pretty good. Is the prep school the first stop for most athletes?

It is around 22-27% female. I am not sure what that stats are for attrition by gender.

As far as prep school it probably depends on the sport. The prep school can also operate like red shirting freshman giving bodies a chance to mature. It also allows the opportunity to give those who need to brush on a subject and chance to do so and be prepared for the rigors of NCAA sports coupled with the rigors of the academy. At the academy athletes don't get to only take 12 credits, so prep school is very important in teaching good study habits and time management to those who may not have experienced it in high school.

Maybe more state schools should take on the year of transition model. I have been reading about incoming college freshman needing to take remedial English, Math, etc. It makes you wonder about grade inflation at high schools. Apparently, the prep school model works...everyone wins.

personally I think they should only go 3 years to HS with a 2 years of service either military, peace corp, or a to be created civil homefront corp or an academy. It would make them more mature and focused.
