I recently needed to seek out some information, and so joined a forum that I thought would be helpful. I was shocked at how rude and hateful the members were to posters and each other. I am very thankful for this forum. Even when we disagree, we are generally not too disagreeable.

Hopefully it wasn't military-related.

Some forums can be pretty rough-and-tumble.

Another member here and I frequent a board where you would think we were all tearing each others eyes out.....until you realized that in large part (and with the exception of a few jerks) its actually a close-knit yet slightly dysfunctional family.

I wonder if the board the OP was on is the one that spawned this site? After all these years, I'd be surprised to hear it was still that way over there...

Yes, some users can get a little bitter about not getting in and what not. But the number 1 thing we must remember is to have a positive attitude and treat each other with respect. And those who aren't doing so...may eventually learn:thumb:

Regardless of the subject matter, most online forums require moderators to be actively involved to keep things from getting out of hand. It would appear that some people use the fact there are in an anonymous cyberspace forum to behave rudely in ways they would never be considered acceptable in public. No adult I know of thinks more highly of others who display poor manners and belittles others in an attempt to make their opinions seem more valid.

Unfortunately, it only takes a few inconsiderate people to make a forum unusable by those of us who are sane/rational and intelligent adults.

Being a part of these forums spoils you. By FAR, the most polite, encouraging, and helpful discussion forums on the internet. BY FAR! Oh, we do have the occasional flare up, but the mods here are fantastic at keeping those quickly under control. They really do a great job here!

I remain active in a few other forums that interest me. Sometimes, I feel I need to shower afterwards from all the filth being thrown around, sometimes I feel the need to pick up a good history book or a crossword puzzle just because I felt my IQ slipping reading some of the idiocy on those other forums.

There is a reason this forum thrives and has continued to grow in size while so many others fail, and some folks (like Pima and myself) stay on board when our own children have passed beyond the stage where we initially needed the information we were looking for. It really is a safe haven from the filth, while also being the best source for the young men and women (and their parents) who are looking for information on how they can start their military careers. I encourage ALL of you who have made this a home these past few months as you started your journeys to continue to remain active. The lessons you ALL have learned are always a valuable resource. :thumb:

Well stated, Bullet. Pretty much sums up my view as well. Consistent with the whole "officer" education, this forum is populated with gentlemen and gentleladies. Ad when some of us get over-excited about an issue, others come to the rescue and repair things and all is right with the world. This is truly a remarkably well-led forum. Kudos to the contributors and mods!
