AFA Prep School Appointments

Just out of curiousity, are "appointments" to AFA Prep School like actual appointments, in that you have only one option, or are they more like scholarships to many prep schools? My SS element leader said she went to an Army prep school (not sure if it was THE Army Prep School).
 
I know that they send out appointment letters to USAFAPS.
 
They are actual appointments to the USAFAPS

I got mine in january of 2007.
 
If you go to the prep school, do you still have to go through the AFA application process for next year?
 
Once you enter the usafa prep school, they take good care of you. All you have to do is send a letter to get a nomination towards the end of the school year.

a letter offering an Appointment to the Prep School ?


According to my last conversation with my Counselor, I am to receive an Appointment to the Prep School, but haven't received the official letter.

Hate to keep asking my counselor, so I was just curious if anyone has received a letter offering the Prep School Appointment.
 
I was told I am overqualified for the prep school, but not high enough to get an initial appointment. My two options are now Qualified with no availability, or receiving a Falcon Foundation Scholarship. I am hoping for the Scholarship, because at least I will have a good chance next year.

How were you told this?
 
My ALO had a lengthy conversation with the admissions office.

I also have the chance of getting a late appointment, but that is slim pickings
 
Wow that is an awkward situation to be in, but it could be me right now too...still waiting for a letter of sorts

I recived an offer of appointment to the USAFA Prep School about a week ago. I was very excited. Hope you get yours!
 
Is it possible to be notified of a USAFAPS appointment before being denied an appointment to USAFA?

From my experience, while things may have changed, an appointment to USAFAPS does not come with a denied appointment letter from USAFA. I was simply notified of an appointment to the USAFAPS and that was it.
 
Okay. Does the candidate portal also say something like: "Prep school appointment offered"? And what are the chances of a preppie getting appointed to go to usafa?

Yea the candidate portal will say something along those lines (don't remember the exact wordage). You're practically guaranteed an appointment to USAFA as long as you do well academically and stay out of trouble (such as lieing, cheating, stealing, etc..)
