My MS I could not contract until late December and was unable to apply for CULP by the deadline. He desperately trying to put something together for the summer. Highest priority is Military trraining/internship, second would be science/engineering related. He is working the civilian angle as a backup.

Several questions:

1. Is there a way around the CULP deadline. He is trying to work this through his batttalion.

2. Is there a a central clearinghouse of some kind for summer training/internships?

3. Any suggestions in particular for an MS I?

Thanks for all your past and future comments and help.

Summer training is very limited for MS1's. To answer a couple of your questions.

1. No, the deadline is pretty set in stone. Not all that applied were selected, some that were selected will not go because of injury, medical, or not getting the requirements done on time. These cadets may be replaced by the one's that were not selected.

2. There is no central clearing house so to speak for summer training. Each battalion is give a number of slots each year and they control who get's the slots. MS1' are not usually selected for these slots though there have been cases in some battalions, I would not count on it.

3> No real suggestions other then enjoy the summer and keep working out, try to get some sort of civilian internship if possible. There are no other summer opportunities within ROTC for MS1s' other then the summer schools such as Airborne, Air Assult, and a few others but again they are usually reserved for MS2s' and a few MS3s'

Thanks Clarkson.

This may be something good for him. My DS had the opportunity to spend his junior year of HS in Brazil and his gap year in Taiwan. His Portuguese and Chinese are very strong, but he is studying Chem eng and he is doing well in that so far.

For him it is a poverty of riches. He really loves his major, languages and ROTC. Thankfully, he put military at the top of his list of summer options.

Thanks AROTC.

Saw it yesterday and they are no longer accepting Apps.

If your MS1 was a Boy Scout, he should consider applying for a position on camp staff at either a local scout camp or one of the national ones like Philmont. Great opportunity to use his leadership skills, portray a positive image about the ROTC program and generally pay it back.
