USAFA deadline - allow for processing time?

I first want to say that I am aware the deadline for the USAFA application is on Monday -- I decided on applying late in the year and my application is now ALMOST complete.
The only thing I'm waiting on is the supplemental form (college transcript) to say "received." I sent it in a couple weeks ago with some other documents, and it says that they've received everything BUT the transcript. Technically, they should have received it since it was with the other things they say they "received." Will my application say "complete" once they say that it's received? Or will it still need to be processed as well...?
Also, do they allow time past the application deadline to process anything that hasn't been processed yet, or will my application just be automatically disqualified?

Hope this questions is clear. Let me know if you need any elaboration. Thank you.

USAFA deadline

Hi H2O,
my sons app had the same outstanding item and we had confirmed that his school had sent in his 1st semester transcript weeks prior, but his portal had never changed.

I called and spoke with his counselor yesterday , due to the same fear as you, and I stayed on the phone until he had found it in a pile of unprocessed paperwork and read it to me and assured me that it would be processed and his application changed to complete.

Of course that didn't happen yet, but I will be checking on Monday.
I do feel confident that its complete because he had the transcript in his hands.

I suggest that you leave nothing to chance and contact them on Monday morning, first thing and confirm that they have received it. If not then you have time to have it sent over.

Best of luck to you.

Same here. I called my admissions counselor and he too told me that he had it in his hands but he mentioned that he had every college transcript together from the region. Perhaps USAFA waits until all or received on time to process them all

USAFA admissions is swamped with last minute things. Please, do not call the admissions counselors. It takes them a little bit to get everything processed because there are thousands of kids sending in every last minute detail they can think of. If every kid calls, then it will take longer for them to process. Also, the portal is slow uploading paperwork. I had my stuff in by October last year and it still took them a couple of weeks to process stuff and they were no where near as busy as they are now. Have patience, trust the system, because calling them at this point is not going to change if you are able to send it off in time.

If you're really that worried, I'd say overnight them a copy or fax it to them, but make sure they can tell it's your official transcripts. Best bet would be to overnight it w/a signature required that way you know for sure someone got it. I mean, worst that happens is they realize they have 2 copies and toss one. Or drop your counselor an email, mine generally got back to me in a couple hours, and it seemed more convienient for him than calling (and it was more convenient for me!) Best of luck! :thumb:

If I already sent my transcripts before, and the academy has received and processed them is it required to send my 1st semester transcripts by the deadline? I know they have to be sent, I just didn't know that they had to be sent before the 31st.

I had my transcript sent about a month ago, and the portal didn't say it had been received so I called the USAFA counselor office. I couldn't get a hold of my own counselor, but I did talk to another counselor for a different district. The guy said that they don't update the college transcript part to "received" until after they have received the transcript for spring semester. And by that time you will know if you have an appointment or not. So basically if you had it sent you should be ok even if it doesn't say they have received it.

I can confirm balloon's statement, I also am applying from college and my admissions counselor told me the same thing.

From what I've read so far, this seems to be the case. It's very misleading though, considering the online app still says "incomplete" even past the deadline. I guess the general consensus seems to be that the online application is more of a guideline and doesn't necessarily reflect whether or not your application is actually "complete."
Anyways, thank you all for your help! I can now breathe a sigh of relief knowing that they most likely did receive my transcript. I did, however, express-ship another copy, just in case, and I've also emailed my counselor.

I was also worried that things would need to be processed by the academy before the deadline for an applicant to be considered, but is it true that as long as you've done your part before the deadline, it's just up to them to process things at their own pace?

Thanks again. Keeping my fingers crossed!

Receiving conflicting info regarding 7th semester grades. I know the candidate handbook says to send them but our ALO said that unless they are requested by USAFA they do not need them. He said admissions is swamped right now and that would just add to the workload so unless requested, don't send. DS has not been requested by the USAFA to send anything and application says COMPLETE.

In they DO need to be sent my DS can only request them from his HS as of next week so they will not be received by the 31st deadline. Can a ALO or someone with specific knowledge please clarify if 7th semester grads are needed and if they need to be received by the 31st.

Agreed, if someone with actual knowledge of this could please post it would be appreciated. We sent DS's last week, because of the requirement in the pre-candidate booklet. If they post fine, if not that is fine too. Guess I added to their paperwork overload.

I don't know where that ALO heard that, but I'm a re-applicant and know this process painfully well. I would drop everything right now, run over to your school and overnight that transcript. Plain and Simple. You've gotta learn, that when you're dealing with something this big, you have to side and take action with whichever conflicting news could sink you. Just don't neglect anything that could disqualify you. Good Luck!

Again looking for a ALO to reply regarding sending updated transcripts for applicants who have already a completed application. Are they necessary if not requested directly by USAFA AND if they are required, do they need to be recieved by 1/31 for completed applicants. As posted earlier, our ALO said they are not to be sent unless requested but continue to get missed messages on here. Well aware that this is a process of " following the rules" but confused as to what is required and what will be seen as not necessary and adding additional paperwork for admissions. I am prepared to fed-x them tomorrow since DS school just updated them last Friday and are not available until this week!

I am not an ALO but I did read the application handbook attached to my son's application and it says they need to be sent as soon as they are available. There is no mention of a specific date. My son's transcripts also are not yet available and probably won't be before the end of the week at the earliest. I am sure the academy knows that some schools will not have transcripts available by 1/31.

I emailed my counselor, Lt Borg. He said it was unnecessary, though I could send them if I wanted. I sent them a few days ago since my GPA has increased.

I didn't tell my counselor about sending the updated transcript, but I sent them anyway. Also I made sure to update the coach as I have heard that they also need to be up-to-date with your process.
