Just a thread for little random questions anyone may have about life at West Point.

Can we bring instruments to WP to play in our free time?

If you are on WP's collegiate team, do you still have to go to PE or does that sport count as your PE?
 
Do not bring your instrument to Rday...you will lug it around all day. Either have it shipped or brought later (Aday).

If you are a corps squad athlete, your team practice is your athletic time.

If you are good at it I would choose the former. You will need it for the talent show at the end. :wink:
 
What about golf clubs? I have heard there is a small amount of time to practice during beast before tryouts. Does that mean I have to carry them around during R-Day?
 
On instrument line, I have an electric guitar and have been playing for a long time. However, does the academy allow amps? I have headphone jacks on it. And if so, what are the size restrictions? One of my amps is fairly small, but it sucks to play through, whereas the other is much larger and is what I always use.

Is there such a thing as a "paid" candidate visit? I live on the west coast...and I just don't think I could afford a flight to new york, though showing up for the first time on R-day might be a little intimidating...Thanks!

When I was a candidate, the Academy paid for me to go up to West Point 100% free of charge (includes flight from my hometown to Newark Airport and a bus ride from Newark to West Point). The flight was completely paid for as well as lodging with a cadet and mess hall meals, etc.

This may not be the case anymore(due to military budget cuts, etc.), but I'd definitely ask your Admissions Officer if it's still all expenses paid, since it was for me two years ago! :wink:
 
Would there be an opportunity to play in a plebe "band" of sorts? I play Bass, both the guitar and the upright. So as far as bringing the two to WP, i think it'd be crazy :eek: so maybe i'll just take my electric. But like previously stated, do they allow amps??
