I am already well acquainted with the events of the APFT (2 minutes of push-ups, 2 minutes of sit-ups, and a timed 2 mile run), but my question is, how much time do you get between events? I'm not worried about my performance, but I want to make sure I'm doing everything correctly, including practicing it under as realistic time constraints as possible. Doing some online research led to 10 minutes between an event, but that seems like an awful long time! Thank you in advance for the insight!

You are allowed up to ten minutes between. also when doing your run, run about 2.2 miles for your two mile because the course at USMA isnt 2 miles.

The APFT run at USMA isn't 2 miles? What would lead you to the conclusion that it is 2.2 miles? DPE seems pretty strict and I would be surprised if it was more than an inch off the 2 mile marker.

BTW, is it still run by the water treatment plant? That was always pleasant!

We were told that it was around 2.2 miles and yes it is still down by the good ole smelling plant.

I'm pretty sure it's not as much as 2.2 miles but it's definitely a little more than 2 miles flat. You run all the way to a cone, then you turn around, run back to another cone, turn around and run to previous cone, then run all the way back. When we took an APFT at Camp Buckner the course was exactly 2 miles and the difference was obvious.... one of those weird things.

You definitely still run by the treatment plant!

DPE is strict about everything...unless it makes our lives harder. :yllol:

And I don't think DPE determines how long the APFT run is...but I'm not sure.

the regs say the run is to be a two mile run. doesnt mean that it is. the "course" i ran at my basic training was over two miles.

the time between events is really not as much as you think. PT tests are given at either the plt, company, or BN level in the regular army. you will RARELY have a grader for each person being tested. meaning there is wait times. the 10 minutes is to allow a fairly consistant break between events that may not be present with less people being tested.

Also, the APFT is designed to bring you to 100% muscle failure. if you can do one push up after, you werent trying hard enough. if you can do a sit up after, you werent trying hard enough. two minutes of the absolute maximum effort is much harder than you think. and you'll learn to cherish the 10 minutes you're supposed to get.

I have used a GPS on the river APFT at West Point. 2.01 miles. I imagine my GPS was off and it was 2.00 miles by a distance wheel which I think DPE uses.
