We are thrilled, and a little shocked, that DS received his appointment today. We weren't expecting to hear anything until late March, as he is not a recruited athlete or a principal nominee! Check your mailboxes!!! :)

Wow! Congratulations!! This is interesting news! Best wishes to your DS.

So the BFE just came out of the blue? No call from the MOC? No update in the Portal?

Congrats!

Congrats! Sounds like things are starting to move! We've had some breaks in the logjam ourselves in the last few days. :shake:

Best!

I think you'll start to notice some bursts of appointments. They'll go through many of the slated spots first. This way they can determine how many will turn it down. In prior years, it wasn't uncommon to have 300-400 appointees turn down an appointment. This year and last year, they can't take the chance of everyone saying yes. So they'll give out many of the MOC and presidentials and wait a little bit. Then more slated slots. Then they'll fill the turned down slots with appropriate alternates from those slates. Then they'll get to the national pool to fill what's needed to get to the total desired class size.

Congrats Mom in Fl. NOW.... Get a BIG PACKAGE of Bubble-Wrap and wrap your son up in it. Don't let him get hurt or injured. Congrats again.

Great news and congratulations to your DS! Now take the advise from Christcorp and "wrap" up that boy in bubble wrap and keep him safe until June 28th! We are still patiently awaiting news (and driving the mailman crazy) out here on the west coast! :thumb:

Yes, no call from the MOC and the portal has not been updated yet. I'm not even sure whether they used his Congressional nomination or Presidential.

Congratulations to your DS and the entire family. All the hard work has paid off. Now the real rewarding hard work begins. Tell him from an everyday citizen, thanks for dedicating his life in service to the greatest country in the world, the United States of America.

God Bless and God Speed,

RGK

I would like to send my congratulations from up here in New England!! How exciting for your son and your family to begin to make plans. This is such a trying time for all applicants right now. To all of you who have not heard anything yet, Sit tight and hold on, the ride is probably going to be bumpy until you get your BFE. At least that's what I'm telling my DS! Congrats again to all who have received the BFE!!!!!:thumb:

Bubblewrap??

Christcorp,

My son plays football, wrestles, skis, etc. If he is lucky enough to get a appointment, he certainly is not going to stop doing those things. It is what he enjoys doing - it is who he is. If he gets hurt, we will deal it.

I don't think the military wants young men who are bubblewrapped. Put the bubblewrap away....

Congrats to your son, what an accomplishment!! I just realized what the BFE is--the big fat envelope! haha .

Eagleone, CC knows his stuff. I'd think twice before disregarding his advice.

The thinking behind the bubblewrap is to get the appointee into the Academy. Of course the USAF is not wanting bubblewrapped cadets and officers. But if your DS shows up on I-Day injured he will be sent home to try again next year. This happens every year and is heartbreaking for the appointee. There is a story somewhere on here about an USNA appointee showing up with a broken arm and then being led off the Yard by Mom and Dad. He was in tears. I don't know how he broke it, but a day of snowboarding is clearly not worth an appointment.

So I would not put the bubblewrap away at this point. Once a cadet, they can fully participate in activities of their choosing.

Congratulations!!!! That is quite a speedy reply, did he get his application done really early?? Because the due date was only a couple weeks ago...

I agree with blackbird regarding the bubble wrap.

The bubble wrap comment is more about be aware now not to take undue risks. Nobody is saying don't do LAX or BBall in the spring. Everyone is saying be smart and don't be that 17/18 yo thinking you are invincible.

This bubble wrap comment has always been on this site as a congrats, and forewarning about as blackbird stating how they can get injured. It is a common joke.

So my DS has a decent chance of getting an appointment. Should we pull him out of the state regional wrestling tournament this weekend? He's the team captain and one of the best wrestlers. Wonder what the team would think of his about his leadership qualities if he quit at this point because he might get hurt? Should we make him stay home during the annual family ski trip? That would break his heart.

It is possible of course, that he could get hurt. That is one of the reasons for a plan B. But expecting an athlete to sit it out for months waiting for report day seems overly conservative, and I doubt the Academy would want a person who quit doing these activities just to get in.

Of course not. No one here would suggest that. As Pima said, bubblewrap means not taking unnecessary risks like 17/18 years tend to do without even thinking. State wrestling tournament. Absolutely. Deciding to learn how to skateboard for the first time. Wait. . .
