Is anyone who has been accepted willing to share their stats?

(I understand that this will be proceeded by a lecture about geography/minority/and athletics)

Still...I am a Junior and I would like to see if I am in the ballpark.

Thank you in advance,

SA2017.

I didn't get a direct appointment (I didn't even get nomination since my MoC's talk, and I had one to USAFA). I did get accepted to NAPS though.

GPA (uw): 3.6
SAT (superscored): 610 writing, 610 math, 680 reading.
ACT: 35 reading, 33 English, 27 math, 27 science.
Varsity swimming.
I am a Mitchell cadet in Civil Air Patrol and the cadet commander of my squadron.

>500 hours of community service.

Thanks for your response. That's an amazing number of volunteer hours!!!! Those are also great math and English scores! Impressive! Were you recruited for swimming?

No varsity sports, not top 10%, not class president. Just really determined, a lot of initiative, right intent for the right content at the academy. You DO need to be competitive but it is a whole person evaluation. Hope this helps and good luck to you. It's a worthy goal.:thumb:

I forget my GPA, but class rank was 26/570 I believe. SAT, 750 reading, 700 math, 620 writing. Four years of theater (president now), some choir, newspaper, Academic Decathlon, 200 or so hours volunteering. Very little athletically, I ran track my freshman year (everyone is varsity) and have done MMA for a year or so. Oh, and all the AP classes I could take. I'm from Texas, I think I was a principal nomination.

Be the best you can be in things you love. You will probably excel at things you truly enjoy. Then again, I love a lot of sports, just not very good at them! For what it's worth, I have absolutely no idea how I passed the CFA. At least, the first time - my scores were worse than abysmal.

Those are great act scores, particularly the math which is weighted heavily I read. When you wrote the above quote can you further expound?

Thank you for responding. That was very helpful.

LOL-Ok I wouldn't even ask-but you DID put it out there. Any way you want to share those CFA scores (if not I totally understand)

Also, any tips on that crazy reading score? Im not even close. Did you get an LOA?

Thanks for responding, I see what I need to strive for.

School president, taking AP Calculus dual enrollment, have taken Intro to Engineering dual enrollment, attended Boys State, Eagle Scout, started Varsity football and basketball my senior year. Ran cross country and track, though I wasn't that good(about 23 minutes for three miles). I don't have a large upper body either, my bench max is only about 185, however my squat max is nearly 300(I don't know how this happened lol).

No, I'm ok, but not anywhere near where I would probably need to be to be recruited for swimming. I was pretty surprised that I got accepted to NAPS, especially since I didn't finish the application until early January. I suspect my BGO put in a good word that really helped though.

No LOA. I'm just a really good test taker, plus had my nose in a book my whole life. I guess reading a lot helps the score, definitely. And looking back, taking practice SATs would have helped, too. I was disappointed with my writing score.

My first CFA.... The ones I really remember were 2 pullups, 22 pushups and an 8:32 mile. My other scores were more or less decent, actually. Average. I guess it just shows that the CFA isn't the most important thing. That being said, do well on the CFA. If you're starting now from an athletic background, no reason not to do really well.

Good luck to you, by the way.

I cant even compare my profile to yours because yours is so unique. More than your stats im interested in your experiences as a Middle East mission trip/student ambassador to Europe, Australia, & New Zealand. Ive never been out of the US and have only even flown in an airplane once. (family of road-trippers)

I hope I get into the Naval Academy -everyone there seems so cool in their own way.

No dude, no worries. I focused more on my outside activities, specifically those listed above, because that's what I loved. Because of that, obviously my grades suffered and my SAT scores weren't the greatest. I had to work my butt off junior and senior year to raise my GPA from the first two years, but it paid off in the end.

My son had:

ACT Composite: 32
ACT Reading: 32
ACT Math: 34

His school does not rank.
GPA: 3.8 unweighted, 5.2 weighted
National Merit Commended Student
AP Scholar
NHS
National Spanish HS
Bronze Level on National Spanish Exam
Captain of JV Football, Varsity Football, Wrestling.
4 years Lacrosse, Weightlifting
>500 hours community service (mostly coaching kids)

He got an LOA and a nomination from our congressional rep in FL. He is a white male.

Along the same lines as SA2017 I have a question regarding my DS who is a current high school junior.
DS attends a very competitive private school. His current gpa uw is 3.45 but weighted is 3.75. Is there any chance that the USNA will even consider his application with a gpa below 3.5? He had a particularly hard sophomore year and he is currently digging himself out of the hole. I think by the end of his 7th semester he could have a 3.5. Any thoughts. Don't hesitate to be honest please!

Though this was kind of a different time and probably a different place, I got in with "only" a 3.4 unweighted and a not great class rank.

USNA takes into account the difficulty of the school. So, since my school was a competitive private school with 100% college matriculation, my "bad" GPA didn't matter as much.

Hurricane 12 thanks for the encouraging words. I know schools get more competitive every year. My DS attends a school with 100% matriculation and has "challenged himself" academically at the suggestion of his school counselor. I am agonizing over the thought that maybe we shouldn't have let him take so many AP and Honors classes that are now B's instead of A's in regular classes. He is extremely athletic and will do very well on the CFA. I am hoping that keep him in the running. I will keep encouraging to do his best..whatever grade that ends up to be. Thanks

mvmom - USNA wants to see candidates who challenge themselves. If a candidate attends a school that offers a lot of AP and Honors courses they are expected to take a good number of those courses. In general a B in a AP course is the same as an A in a regular course and colleges are pretty good at figuring out which high schools and which courses are most challenging and which grade point averages are inflated. I would actually be more concerned about a candidate that attended a high school with a lot of AP courses who avoided taking those courses just to improve their grades.

Quite frankly, the SA's, along with most colleges and universities, favor the AP courses over honors and college prep courses because the AP courses have defined a curriculum with benchmarks and standardized exams. So far as his downer sophomore year, USNA does look at trends in academic performance so you son has ample opportunity to redeem himself. Has he started taking his SATs and ACTs? The results of these exams are important and he is well-advised to start taking the exams early rather than later - gives him time to improve his scores. As you know, USNA will give him the benefit of his best scores from either exam. Best wishes to him.
